Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One to be Sold in Japan in Limited Quantities

Microsoft still hasn’t announced an official Xbox One release date (2014-ish) for our eccentric far away neighbors in Japan, but that hasn’t stopped MS from updating the official Japanese Xbox One page with mouth-watering information about the Xbox One’s features, functions, and upcoming games.

Considering that overall, the Xbox brand hasn’t done well in Japan overall (Sony and Nintendo have a stranglehold on gamers there), Microsoft seems to be open to an initial limited release. Now we didn’t reach this opinion based on historical evidence of the success of the brand in Japan – the official page actually mentions that the Xbox One will have a limited release in the country.

For those on mobile devices, the text says:

“It (Xbox One) will be available in limited quantities (limited stock) at a particular dealer. Xbox Live Gold membership and game titles are sold separately”

Check out the lawyer-text (above) from the official Japanese Xbox website, and check out the translated page HERE.

So limited quantities in Japan to create artificial demand. Might as well. Maybe artificial demand will get more sales.

Microsoft set to launch the Xbox One with 50 consoles a week confirmed?

MS giving up on Japan confirmed??

I almost feel as though even with limited quantities, it still wont go out of stock in Japan since Xbox is so lolz there

The beauty of this is that the Japanese market is trackes very well. So even if they manage to sell like 300 consoles, we'll still see it register!

If it can't move units in the US, might as well not overstock in Japan, am I right? Probably the smartest thing they've done in a while.

Makes sense. Microsoft tried hard to get Japan to buy the 360. I remember them getting a bunch of exclusive JRPGs early on, and none of them worked. No point in even trying there anymore.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

If by that you mean none made the 360 worth it over PS3 than sure, but they did help 360 sales when they came out. The problem was they stopped coming and PS3 continued to get great JRPGs aswell as those Xbox exclusives

Xbox and 360 only sold in limited quantities in Japan...

Geez, some of you guys. Says the same thing on the english site
