it blends elements really well if that's innovation. Overall I would agree but it was the first game to really give me cinematic, Uncharted-like, moments along with the suvival elements where you had to literally scrounge every environment as much as possible or be screwed. Hell I quit a few times after I knew I had won an area just because I knew I had used too many resources and almost couldn't beat the game the first time on survivor because I had nothing but 2 pistol shots in one of the harder areas.

The word you're looking for is "Synergy". it has done that better than any game before it, that's why it's so good.
