Did Xbox lose Call of Duty DLC timed exclusivity? Sony says yes
Here’s some potentially big news for Call of Duty fans. It appears that Microsoft’s long running deal to have Call of Duty DLC appear a month early on Xbox platforms has either ended or been significantly reduced. While there is no official word on this, Sony revealed today that Call of Duty Ghosts: Onslaught DLC will hit the PS4 and PS3 on February 6th for $14.99.
For the past few years, Xbox systems would get all COD DLC one month ahead of any other platform, PS3/PC included. But this deal appears to have either expired or been gimped tremendously as Onslaught is hitting Playstation platforms only 9 days after it was released on Xbox 360/Xbox One.
So what gives? We’ll reach out to Activision to see if they’ll say anything about this but I doubt we get a response. Still, you’ve got to wonder how changes like this will factor into what platform the average Call of Duty player chooses for next-gen.
Ghosts is already selling more copies on PS4 than on Xbox One and with no real DLC advantage Microsoft loses a key quasi-timed exclusive.
