Forums - Gaming - How much would you feel comfortable paying for a game?

Which price would you feel a (new)game should cost? Both digital and retail games.

Todays prices are fine with me! 17 18.48%

€/£/$ 40-50 27 29.35%

€/£/$ 30-40 24 26.09%

€/£/$ 20-30 12 13.04%

€/£/$ 10-20 7 7.61%

Even lower! 3 3.26%

Don't know/No opinion. 2 2.17%

Like I wrote in another thread, I wish that the prices were a lot lower, for digital games especially but also for physical games.

In my opinion I think that 25RMB for a digital game and 50RMB for a physical game would be an okay price for me, and I could even stretch it to 50-100RMB. Today it's like 300-400RMB for both digital and physical games(PC) and 500-600 for console games.

Some might say that if they were to lower their prices that much, they wouldn't make so much money. But wouldn't you buy more games if they were that much lower? I think that people would actually buy more games than they normally would, even buy games that they were not really interested in. With the logic of "this game doesn't look too good, but it only cost 50 so I can buy it anyway".

And just to make my post more understandable, 10RMB is $1, €1 or £1 and 100RMB is $10, €10 or £10, etc. Not the exact conversion but you will get the point.

Depends on the game. for my most anticipated games I would have no trouble paying 100€ at launch(regular version, I don't buy CE). Second tier games are ok for 30-40€. For games I only have a slight interest 10€ is too much.

Of course also depends on the scope of the game.

depends entirely on the game, I will pay as much or as little as I think is a reasonable price for each game I buy. If it's too expensive I will wait for a sale. But that is not to say that someone else might think a game is worth more. Having games start high and then go down in price over time/have discount sales after a certain period of time works great. Devs get more money from hardcore fans, and more from the masses that are willing to wait to pay less.

We're in an awkward transition stage, but I think prices that are actually lower are the future of games. Right now they've got to keep digital prices just as high as physical so that retailers don't get mad, but in a generation or two when there's just no reason to keep making physical copies I imagine we're going to see a lot of competitive pricing. The bigwigs will want to keep them just as high, but with indie gaming on the rise I think they're going to reach a point where it's be competitive or lose the fight.

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

As a standard, it's hard to say. I don't think prices are too bad overall though.

It depends on if it's digital or physical copy or if it's a limited edition etc. Even PC games are often lower in price than console games.

But try to think of it as a whole, the average price for a game. :) The target price for a new game.

I don't pay full price for most of my games, I wait for price drops. The amount I wait for depends on the game

You should not have bundled the currencies like that. I mean the british pound sterling is not comparable to the american dollar.

Even if people are just clicking the currency/price that applies to them it still makes your poll meaingless.

I aint trying to be a jackass but you should really recosider your poll.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

1. I know, and it's not exact science. It's just to point out some prices.

2. And in reality a game that cost $50 in the USA will cost £50 in the UK, as how the market works today. So I feel that the simplified answers I gave to my questions are fair enough. I just did what the gaming market do every day. :) So "even if people are just clicking the currency/price that applies to them" it does make totally sense.

3. No problem. I just made it simple so everyone would understand it easier, even if the conversion is not 100% accurate. Like I wrote on the bottom of my post "Not the exact conversion but you will get the point.".
