VGC tracks sell-through of boxed products, so even if digital copies did not exist, VGC's numbers have to be lower than Nintendo's by default (who report shipped).

Also, the document clearly states that digital sales are included in the totals.

Yup, just saw that it says it includes "downloadable versions".

Also, if they include digital with shipped, that can't be correct... Manufacturers don't always use shipped-only figures (they're perfectly capable of getting sales numbers for their own products), and if they're including digital, digital is a "sold" unit.  Combining sold and unsold units wouldn't be professional, no?

I think those numbers are actual sales, versus "shipped"... I could be wrong, but nothing screams "shipped" in that document...  And they have to be pretty clear about stuff like that for financial reports...

Unless quoting a tracking service, publishers are quoting shipped numbers because they're unable to track their own sales. This is why they pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to NPD, chart track, etc.

That's what I was referring to: they're perfectly capable of getting "sold" numbers from a tracking service, why would they combine shipped from manufacturer with digital (sold) numbers?  It seems illogical to combine sold and unsold units.  Either way, I guess it doesn't really matter at this point, at least there are official numbers to reference when someone goes "ZOMGZ KNACK OUTSOLD SM3DW LAWLS WII U SUCKS!!!", lol

Because there isn't a difference for them, and how many they can ship is what they care about. They do not get any monetary benefit (only a chance of reorder/multiple shipments) from you buying a game at a retailer. Once Nintendo (or any other publisher) ships a game to the retailer, it's sold and that's the only thing they care about. Digital sales is just another platform to get $$ and it just removes the middle man.

I was talking about the upcoming games on pages 7 and 8. I think I'm in the right place.....Where am I????

lol... The thread topic was intended to ask whether or not VGChartz will reflect official totals with digital sales, or remain tracking only physical :P

But I get ya now, haha :D

I was just so shocked it threw me off topic! I'm better now :~}

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."
