Forums - General - J.K. Rowling regrets hooking up Hermione/Ron, admits Harry/Hermione shippers were right all along

Rowling says that she should have put Hermione and Harry together in the Harry Potter series instead of Hermione and Ron, according to the publication’s headline, which reads, “JK admits Hermione should have wed Harry.”

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment,” she says. “That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

“I know, I’m sorry,” she continued, “I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

Watson didn’t seem shocked by these comments and agreed with her. “I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.”

Rowling also says that Ron and Hermione would have needed “relationship counseling.”

My thoughts exactly, Joanne.

Actually at first I thought the same but who knows, I like the way it ended ;o

MAKE A ALTERNATE UNIVERSE Series n_n.

Harry/Ginny doesn't make any sense tbh. It's just weird going for your bestfriend's sister and your pseudo-parent's daughter.

I could've seen Luna as a better substitute but Ginny is just blander than ice-cold porridge.

Hermione/Malfoy could've rocked the HP world if we're talking about unpredictability though.

Ron should've been Uncle Bilius 2.0. Living the bachelor life forever. He just doesn't deserve Hermione at all.

Well that's stuff for the next 7 books right there :)

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah I thought the Ron/Hermione thing was forced, and also the Harry/Ginny thing (especially in the movies, oh the horror)

Ugh don't remind me. I even found Voldemort's creepy rebirth more erotic than that Harry/Ginny kiss which doesn't speaks much for the other.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I think it ended just fine. He grew into a man that to me seems perfectly aligned with her.

Harry Potter and the Magical Affair!?

though I agree that I didn't like the Ron/Hermione relationship...it came out of the freakin blue...after Ron became a wiz defender at quidditch, kisses another girl and she goes off crying...I was like wtf

Harry should've ended up with Hermione(or that asian girl :p) ending up with Ginny was just weird for me

Her instincts were valid. I couldn't have been the only one who saw Ron/Hermione coming from a mile off (and this was long before i learned "shipping" was a thing). Harry/Ginny did feel like it came a bit out of left field, but when you look back on it, not as much.
