Forums - Sony - Will Gran Turismo shrink on the PS4?

Yep, just like halo, it's a series in decline

Around the Network

It will do greatly.
GT6 had no advertising in America and limited else where compared to GT5. Sony saved over 100 million by the lack of advertising while making profit from GT6 in less then a week of release. GT on PS4 is easy success. I doubt theres a way to screw it up. PS4 power and easy of use compared to PS3 will and has been noticed at pd. Though never publicly stated, pd did not love the PS3. They ran into serious difficulty first few years of development.

A friend of mine is a huge fan of Gran Turismo, but he's fairly sure GT7 will NOT hit 10 million sales - he predicts 5-6, maybe even just 4.

His reasoning is that people will not come back after GT5 disappointed them. So, what do you think?

Edit: Oh, another thing is that he thinks that Driveclub and Project CARS (lol) will steal some of GT7's sales. And he's 150% sure that GT will NEVER hit 2,5 million units on the US again.

Here's my two cents: the simple fact that it's the first GT on the PS4 will make it reach 10 million. The fanbase didn't seem THAT disappointed with GT5, but I'm not part of that fanbase, so who knows.

Oh, and GT6 "doesn't count". It had a horrible timing, should have never been a PS3 game, imo.

Allow me to disagree with your friend. First of all... how old is he? GT sales, as we know them, may drop, but one should take into account that digital sales keep growing - and that impacts physical ones.

The sole reason the franchise is going "shrink" is the constant bashing it gets from media and people over the internet. While it is among the best (if not the best) driving simulator out there (GT6 the best in the series), people keep the opinion of it producing a heavily flawed experience racing-wise.

I can understand that. The vast majority of gamers are not reali-life racers. Can't tell the fine aspects of driving (and racing) delivered by the game. Most of them met racing (and indeed driving) through TV, series and films. And that is what they expect (and need to have) from a racing game. Not realism though.

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.

If GT was going to see a fall in sales, PS3 would have been the reason. With the momentum PS4 has, and the media being less Xbox bias, and more PlayStation accepting, GT7 should have a good shot at reaching GT3 levels.

I am really hoping that Sony boosts the man power behind the next game. They really need more people to create cars, tracks, and content that is all at PS4 quality. Hopefully we have seen the end of the days of PS2 up res models.

To add a little bit GT5 was the fastest selling GT ever... It was way front loaded than any GT in the history I guess because all the years people needed to wait a new GT game.

GT6 was more in line with what GT games sells at launch even so it sold lower than what I expected and just will reach 8 million at the end of PS3 life.

You think GT6 will sell 8 million copies? That seems like a pretty tall order. But I guess I'll have to wait for PDs numbers before I make a final judgment.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Nope, theres only one 'real' driving simulator and thats GT.
Its gonna be epic now that the developers wont be as restricted as they were with the PS3.

full 1080p and locked to 60fps with 200 different cars on the nurburgring at night in the rain....if thats an E3 trailer, good luck to all other racing games.
I expect PD to do something crazy like that.

It will sell a lot. Bundles, special editions with less content, rest via dlc, big advertisements, cool graphics. I don't see it shrinking.

You seriously think GT6 will reach 8 million units sold?!  I have doubts it will reach 5 million in sales even with massive bundling.

Double post.

I really like Gran Turismo games, since GT1 and I am impatient to see the next GT on PS4.

But if they could avoid Quincunx AA on their first PS4 games, it would be perfect.

Because from the ultra sharp 4xMSAA in GT5 to the vaseline filter (Quincunx) in GT6? I am so disappointed. Most people think the GT6 is less sharp (worse resolution) when in fact it has better resolution but wrecked by a horrible blur filter.

Something at PD went horribly wrong I think with GT6. Too obsessed with the 1080p target I think they forgot framerate and Image quality.

And It's not even a real 1080p for the purists anyway.
