i'm gonna say Amazon is wrong. not with full conviction though... odds of new design: i put it at 9 to 1.
that said, i do think we'll see a redesign, just not quite yet.
the Wii is an epidemic.
I think it is more likely to be a bundle or a price cut with confirmation of cooler, quieter insides, rather than a complete redesign.
I think they will wait until closer to GTAIV for a price drop. Unless of course they dropped the price now and bundled it at only a little extra cost........

Well im just annoyed by time zones right now. Here in Australia the 18th is almost over, but i have to wait until the 19th for my news on the 18th opening day of GDC lol

Its definiely too soon to call an end fo 360 although Microsoft is in the worst position of the console makers and they need a little more than a new sku to gain back their market share.
They don't really need to pull out. Even though the world console market seems to be run by Sony and Nintendo, MS does definitely have a scene with their Halo / FPS crowd. They started profiting. The only reason I could see them doing this is because they may have not made their original goal of dominating the living room environment. Even though I do like Sony and the PS3 better, I wouldn't like to see them withdrawing.

i bet they are gearing up to drop what they have and release a new model--that would explain the shortages and such

Do you mean a slimline model, or just a reshaped one?
MS would IPO the Xbox unit rather than just dropping it. They could easily raise billions through an IPO, why would they throw away money like that?
