Forums - Gaming - Muramasa preview

A preview, so you know what that means.  I'm not going to bother finishing this pos.  I suppose the reasoning behind this being one of the supposed gems on the Wii is because the beautiful graphics and the fact that it was exclusive, because it's certainly not because the gameplay is any good.

Muramasa is what you'd get if you'd take the Metroid, Castlevania 2, or Symphony of Night style exploration, and make most of it just go right or go left, removing pretty much all required platforming.  You usually instead take paths going a layer up or a layer down and then there are more maps you get to run left and right on.  In order to find out where to go, there is either a flag on the left or the right side of your minimap.  So you'd make the assumption that you're going the correct way if it tells you to go right or left, but if where you're instead supposed to go is on another layer, like a layer up or down, so on a different path it still only tells you to go left or right.  If you're coming from the right, and you're on the correct layer, then the map will s till show left.  It does this so you can't pass the part, but if you're on the wrong layer, you'ree not on the correct spot anyways, so yay, more backtracking to any layer that is above or below the one you're on.  The full map doesn't do shit, it doesn't show where your objective is at.

The combat doesn't help as it's nothing more than a button masher.  Sure there are different attacks you can do that it teaches you in the tutorial and you do have to do them at times, but it just feels like a button masher.  I've gotten past a few bosses and, let's just say by some chance you happen to die, I'm playing on Chaos difficulty so I've died a few times, but there is no penalty for dying.  Infact, the game rewards you for dying.  If your HP is low, don't bother healing, just keep playing because by dying you'll be rewarded with full health.  If you die you also start the exact same spot that you died.  So not only is it boring as hell repetitive, but they basically completely threw out the difficulty.

And don't even bother reading the storyline.  I read a bit of it until a little after the first boss, and not only is it boring, but I couldn't tell you what it was going on.  The gist of it I think might be the girls soul is not her own or something like that.

Recommended that if you do play this awful game, avoid reading the text, put it on easy instead of chaos, and just rush blindly through it so you can just get through it as quick as possible.  Or.  Better yet.  Don't waste your money.  This game is garbage and by some chance I did make my way through it, it'd be lucky to get an overall of 3/10.

Listen to metacritic folks. Its a great game.

I'm playing it now, and it's not garbage but you sure are!

Seriously, though, I'm having fun so far. The music is quite nice, and, of course, the game is quite the looker as all of Kamitani's games are. It's early goings yet, but the combat seems impressively balletic. Sort of like a 2D DMC. I get the feeling that the challenge of the game is more in the bosses/Caves of Evil/1 hit kill mode than from the regular battles, which are more of a chance to level up and get money.

I thought it was great on many levels, but to each his own.

Hmmm... well i will try not to be too harsh on you this time.

I can understand where you are coming from. The combat certainly is quirky. It almost plays itself and its sometimes difficult to keep up with what i happening on screen. The controls are awkward.
With that said, it doesnt mean i isnt fun to hack and slack enemies. The sword crafting mechanic is quite addicting aswell. But, the real meat of the experience here is in the visual presentation and the music. Incredible presentation. The game looks gorgeous and its nothing like we have seen before. Literally like playing a set of paintings. The story is nothing special and serves just as an excuse to traverse these lush envyronments.
With that said, i played the Vita version where you can jump, not the Wii one.

I would rate it more on the 7's range.

But 3 is just below average. Go for a solid 1, km.
