Can I ask the reason for the 5! 2TB HDDs or am I missing something

That will certainly power everything you could ever want, I guess you could get high end 4k with that?

I'm also curious about the dials on the front, is that some sort of fan controller?

Porn. Lots of it.

I have to ask... Why the 3970X and not the newer Ivy-Bridge based 4970X? (Or the 3930K/4930K derivatives)

All you need now is for a proper water loop, braid up some cables and get a more decent case. :)

And without farther adoo... Welcome to the Socket 2011 PC gaming master race! Bahaha

Because i built this rig off of mostly spare parts from upgrading my work computer, which is running a 4960X (4970X doesnt exist, yet :P), work pc has same motherboard and ram (just more of it, 64GB) but an Nvidia Tesla K20X instead of a gaming specific card, didn't want the 3970X to go to waste so yeah..

My wife's comp is even better than my work comp to be honest, she's running dual Xeon E5-2687Wv2's on an Asus Z9PE-D8 WS with full compliment of 256GB of ram.

which looks like this for the record.

My Mistake! Granted... The only difference would be a multiplier change between the 60X and 70X anyway. :P

I've had my 3930K for over 2 years now, clocked at 4.8ghz, it's weird hanging onto a CPU for so long these days and still hitting the top of the performance charts, I wan't Haswell-E already.

Network storage for our work PC's (mine and my wifes), that was another reason for building the machine - I work with multi-gb files every day so a large amount of storage was a must, i will be installing another 5 2TB drives once we are done moving house.

Top things a fan controller and temperature monitor, middle things an amplifier, bottom is blu ray burner.

Okay, that makes sense

How useful is the fan controller? I have been tempted to do something since my case fans just run at full speed the whole time

They're usefull if you have lots of fans. Otherwise you can control them on the motherboard as most motherboards come with multiple fan-headers and you can use splitters to add more in.
Also, they can look cool if you're building to a theme, I used a laptronic "mesh" styled fan controller with my old Corsair C70 case to fit the military theme for instance.

I guess so. My PC is far from high end (well certainly in comparison to this one), so the motherboard might be the best solution

I was thinking about that, but the only thing my computer has going for it is minimalism I guess. It is my first and only build, so I just went for a big case to make sure I wouldn't break anything

To be honest i dont really connect the fans to it, fan controllers have this habbit of not allowing the fans to go full tilt completely.

I use it mainly to monitor 6 points of the computer, usually when its being used as a render slave (ram banks 1 and 2, cpu, psu, primarry ssd, primary hdd).

rather than messing with the computer in windows i dont even need a monitor connected i can just come over, turn the dials and check on the tempts directly.

Soooo. not to name any names but a certain person decided to take it upon themselves to contact me privately and call me out as a "bullshitter" and a particular console fanboy, insisting that I neither own nor like 1) Xbox One, and 2) WiiU, rather than get in to a debate with them I figured I would just post this.

Only difference is I'm currently using a silverstone strider gold for PSU as the PSU listed in the opening post was having problems with voltage stability on the second PCIE rail.

As for the console bit, here ya go.

Look what you made me do, now they've all seen the PC bits and are crying out of shame, that DS4 used to be happy as pie teasing the XB1 controller about resolution and framerates, and that WiiU tablet was just thankful to be owned, now they're all upset and it's all thanks to you, unnamed internet vigilante!

Your PC is naked! Put some clothes/case on it! :P

Do you like that Wacom tablet?

The Dells... Why the 11 instead of 13? You don't use 10bit color when gaming, and the 13 is much better in other regards. And why 2 of them instead of 1 or 3 if it's only for gaming? Eyefinity is useless with two monitors.

Actually, one of the big advantages of 10bit colour in gaming is less colour banding.
It's more evident in older games such as Homeworld 2 where the maps background picture doesn't have a smooth colour grading on 8bit or lower panels, is it worth the expense of a 10bit panel? That's up to the individual.

As for Eyefinity, some games work well with just 2 monitors like Supreme Commander or Civilization, it's the games where you have a crosshair smack dab in the middle of the bezels that are useless. :P

I would hazard a guess it's not for gaming primarily, he/she has a graphics tablet and the panels to suit.

Know the feeling. I've been told that game pics I posted weren't actually from my rig, but instead "bullshots" and that the rig I claim to own is also BS.

In any event, good stuff you're working with there (as I see much of the PC brethren in here have covered).

Well. You don't have anything to prove IMHO.
But I've also been in a similar situation, bunch of print screens of my hardware was enough though.

I'm assuming it's jelousy as they aren't part of the PC gaming master race. :P
