Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Official Game Developer's Conference (GDC) Thread!

The Game Developer's Conference, or GDC, takes place from February 18-22, 2008 in San Francisco, CA.  GDC is the largest annual gathering of professional video game developers, focusing on learning, inspiration, and networking.  The event comprises an expo, networking events, awards shows such as the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice Awards, and a variety of tutorials, lectures, and roundtables by industry professionals on game-related topics covering programming, design, audio, production, business and management, and visual arts.

Basically, within the next few days, we will get a lot of info coming from many different video game companies.  This thread will keep track of new info and announcements.  I will update this post whenever I can with up to date news from the conference.  Feel free to talk about rumors, desires, etc until the news actually starts arriving.

Here's for hope of news of cool and unknown IP's.
Civ V, Thief 4, Deus Ex 3 and a few other tidbits would also be much appreciated...

As I said in the other GDC thread, GDC is a place for networking, getting hammered, and a giant job fair and not so much a media event where they are going to make a lot of big announcements.

The ability to download yourself and all your belongings into sony's HOME

Sony's already said that they'll have a pretty low key presence this year. I don't expect too much. I think that a lot of developers don't like making announcements at big events anymore because there is too much competition. Most would rather make there announcements during some boring winter week where nothing else happens that way it's the "talk" for awhile--hype generator!

I think the only company that's going to have a big presence is Microsoft.

Ya, I expect some big stuff from MS this year. They need to start annoucing those games.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Does anybody know the press conference schedule for the big three game makers?

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
