I'm keeping an eye on the announced 24" 4K monitor from Dell.

Sure, I'd have to set Windows to zoom the characters and all that, but it will still look good. And if I ever get a GPU able to run games a that res, I won't have to use AA again.

Now that is interesting... I do have some issues with my 13" 1080p laptop where everything is too small in places, Windows doesn't do a hugely great job scaling with resolution yet, so hopefully they fix that by the time 24" monitors are actually at an affordable price

I've found the article. It's not very positive about that monitor for gaming, but

The bin at 100, 150 and 200% scaling, and here's the desktop at 100% and 200%

Some of you may remember my thread about 4k display tvs. In the end I decided on waiting.
I semi failed, knowing that the WK in brazil won't be available in anything higher then HD I upgraded my pc monitor since it was also overdue, had the previous one for to long now LOL.

Sorry to dissapoint but Sony has all the equipment ready to broadcast Brazil 2014 footbal worldcup in the glorious 4K format. They only need to discuss on the games but as it stands now all the games will be available in 4K. Now it is up to service providers and cinemas whether to provide the games in that resolution.

I have a 27" imac with a 2560*1440p screen which is absolutely gorgeous. I really like the workspace a large screen with a high resolution provides. I casually also watch movies/television with it when my TV in the living is used by others in the family. I also play some games on it but that then the resolution is 1080p.

On my laptop I have a 1366*768p screen which I find to low now. But I mostly use it just for schoolwork, writing, and watching shows when hooked up on the TV. I don't know whether I'll buy a new laptop soon since it works perfectly fine for the casual stuff. Perhaps a tablet with at least a 1080p resolution or higher.

All cards will have fluctuations in frame rates but you're seeing a limitation to 60 fps because of a Vsync issue with Crysis 3, not because of the card themselves or the demands of the game.

Look at other games.
BioShock Infinite at 120 FPS at 2560 x 1440
Metro: Last Light at 75 FPS at 1920 x 1080
Tomb Raider at 55 FPS at 2560 x 1440
Battlefield 4 at 80 FPS at 1920 x 1080
Hitman: Absolution at 85 FPS at 2560 x 1440
Sleeping Dogs at 80 FPS at 2560 x 1440
Batman: AO at 100 fps at 2560 x 1600
CoD: Ghosts at 90 FPS at 2560 x 1600
Far Cry 3 at 70 FPS at 1920 x 1080

It's not the vsync. I don't play with vsync because of the input lag. Try Crysis 3 at  2560 x 1600. Barely makes it above 30 fps. Far Cry is another good example. Old game, newest card barely makes it. I know both Farcry and Crysis are poorly optimized but that doesn't matter. Games are now getting more demanding and some probably heavily optimized for AMD instead of Nvidia. It's not getting easier.

So 1080p is good for me now. It's also a plus because if I get used to a higher resolution I will get eyecancer from my PS4 like with my PS3 right now.

The Vsync issue with Crysis 3 doesn't matter if you have it turned on or not.  It's an issue with the game.

The deskptop seems to work fine, but not everything does. my problem was specifically with Chrome not working properly... But I guess going forward Google will fix that too

But I think it's definitely worth waiting for IPS screens first and foremost. The little I know about my screens are that they are IPS

Once they become more common, all the software giants will fix those problems.

And I agree about waiting for IPS and 60Hz. Right now, those kind of monitors are +3,500 USD. Hopefully they will fall fast in price given the push of the industry for that format.

In September there plans to broadcast in 4k but only if Sony would handle all the technologic required (probably as part of a sponsor deal). I think it was confirmed in November that all the games have the possibility to be showcased in 4K and during CES Sony talked more about 4K and how their 4K cameras will be used during the Worldchampionship. Now we only need to wait and see which providers will be offering that. I think SKY and Fox probably and just as with WC 2010 also in theaters.

Why no 1366x768 on the poll? That's both my monitor resolution and my notebook screen res.
