Sounds like pure speculation on the newspaper's part and it should be labeled as such.

Except its logical that

1) a ND will be this thurs/fri

2) recent Nintendo statements all point to something of a change involving mobile market usage

I think its very likely.

Oh the full article makes it more clear. I guess it'll be like say Mario 3D World, the cat suit is a main power up for example, so maybe they'd release a smartphone Mario 3D World app that has a Mario catsuit mini-game or something.

If it's in Nikkei, it's pretty much official, they are *the* Japanese business paper like the Wallstreet Journal here, they often get scoops on big Nintendo news a day or two before hand.

Sounds good.

Doesn't sound that bad, but if this is true, it means we won't get the big January Direct we wanted :/

Advertising efforts? Yes.
Game demos? No.

What if game demos is taken out of context and it actually is tiny mini-games that simply advertise the larger wiiu/3ds game?

I don't like this, I think it's a slippery slope if it ends up being successful.

We've gone from

- You'll never see Mario on smartphones

to

- Well maybe Miiverse

to

- Nintendo mini-games coming to iOS/Android

I dunno. If this is successful I think really what it will do is push Nintendo to make more iOS/Android content.

Also I'm not sure if people won't just download these free Mario/Zelda/whatever themed "mini-demos" and just say "well I have Mario on my iPhone, I don't need a 3DS" or something. But I guess after three sh*tty years of financials, Iwata and co. had no choice but to bow to investor pressure.

@superchunk

That is more believable.

But regardless while this may help, they really need to work on tv and internet advertising for Wii U, especially in NA. They just need to have some GOOD commercials. It's not hard, Nintendo used to have great commercials, they even had a few during the Wii era. They need to advertise better, on top of getting games out in a timely fashion from now on.

Not a bad idea tbh. If they charge $1 for each minigame they can make a lot of money, plus it's advertisement for the real game on the 3DS and/or Wii U.

And more importantly, it will keep investors happy.
