My safe bet would be Super Smash Bros. 4. My somewhat risky bet would be Halo.

Halo has shown to be a high ranking series before, but not as consistently as SSB.

I've never played Xenoblade, but isn't X supposed to be an entirely different concept? It doesn't look like a safe sequel to me. Xenoblade struck gold with the critics, probably the best result you could ask with a home console JRPG, and I think it'll be highly unlikely to happen again.

Uncharted 4 is a safe sequel, and Naughty Dog's metacritic history has been pretty stellar the past few years.

As others indicated, Xeno got a 92 meta. You're right about simply assuming that X is the better game, but if it *is* (at least from a critical standpoint), then it'll definitely be a contender.
