Fire Emblem, Kirby, Metroid, and Yoshi off the top of my head have all had at least a couple of games within the last six years, and only one of those titles has sold over 2 million units (I believe)

Metroid took a long break in the past, though.

Certainly, but that was more due to not being able to come up Metroid game that would work well for the N64, and less about not wanting to release a Metroid title.

Other franchises:
Metroid: 1.353 Status: Debatable

Fire Emblem: 0.6236  Status: Alive with crossover soon

Yoshi: 1.911  Status: alive with two games soon

Donkey Kong: 2.13   Status: Alive

Chibi-Robo: 0.253 Status: probably a digital franchise now

Rhythm Heaven: 1.4     Status:Unknown but last release in 2011

Edit: I will add to this list

How did u come up with that Donkey Kong number?

haha, probs includes anything with the name Donkey Kong in it.

Donkey Kong Country, the series with a game coming out next month sells a lot better.

It would be like saying Mario averages X amount without splitting 2D, 3D, Kart, Sports, Party etc.

I think Wii Party is secure as long as the Wii brand still exists...

The fact that Wii Party U is being bundled in Japan (and is now one of the better selling Wii U titles because of this) demonstrates (some) confidence in the brand...

Even when the Wii brand ends, I can still see them making a spiritual successor to the game. Like Mii Party or something.

If u only take into account the mainline console platformers, the average is more like 6 million

I can't say for sure, but it probably depends on business strategies and overall profit vs budget. Plus, like some mentioned, not all of the Nintendo franchises follow this line of thought. Just look at Kirby.

If it is easy and cheap to develop and even if sells 0.5mil, is worth to continue to produce every couple of years.

It's true. I'll show you all the ones I can think of.

Pikmin

Average sales per game (Not counting new play control) - 1.18 million

Break until Pikmin 3 - 9 years

F-Zero

Average sales per game - 1.16 million

Dead since 2003

Starfox

Average sales per game (Not counting Star Fox 64 3D) - 2.1 million

Dead since 2006

I wonder if this will continue with the Wii Party series.

Miyamoto said he has a ton of ideas for F-Zero & Star Fox on the Wii U.

But F-Zero U will be the last one, because there are no more ideas after this new one, to do anything else new.

Nintendo wants to make sure to maintain the standards for each IP of their own, and there is also the need for people to actually want another at this time.

If you don't want Star Fox, then you won't get one. When you want a new Star Fox you will get one.

Pikmin is about something else I believe but I forget what.

F-Zero is about actual new ideas for a new experience.

He did not say that about F-Zero, he was actually surprised that people want a new one based on the sales of the last one and said he wouldnt make a new one until he could think of new ideas that would add to the game.

He did say it would most likely be the last one, if he makes it.
