It's too early to make a call on where TLoU will ultimately stand in the annals of video games. In my opinion there is the potential that it could become one of the handful of games that are recognised as milestones in gaming history. Like many reviewers, for me, The Last of Us was a mature story for a mature audience. It is a game that both dispels any lingering illusions that gaming 'is for kids', and makes the case for games as a serious rival to the movie industry as a means to tell compelling stories.
Hopefully the critical and commercial success it has seen will encourage more developers to create many more compelling games with sophisticated storytelling, and encourage those with stories to tell that games are a viable medium to tell stories that matter. What a legacy that would be.
