Forums - Sales - Amazon US/UK/IT/ES has the PS4 instock (SOLD OUT in DE/FR) - DE received a new shipment, got sold out and saw a 1500% increase

I could have sworn they went out of their way to say 'sold through'?

The only number companies can be 100% sure are shipped numbers.

Sony shipped no more than 4,3mi units, that is the only and final hard data we have from last December. And that is cloudy because Sony bundled PS3 shippments along PS4s.

When a unit gets to the retail the manufactors have little to no way to track its day-to-day sales.

They do a very similar job as VGChartz or NPD. Might be that they receve some directly retail reports (and that´s is may be why Sony UK knows how much ahead they are from Microsoft there).

Sony shipped over 4.2 million units lol

Last time we had this discusion you said, and I agreed, Sony had shipped close to 5mi units.

Have you changed your mind?

5m = over 4.2m

It can be 4.5m, 4.8m, 5m... they only certain is they shipped over 4.2m.

So, PS3 shipped only 2mi units?

Eg.

PS4 4.8m
PS3 3.0m

To PS4 ship 2 million it is needed PS4 to be shipped 5.8m.

You need some math class ASAP.

I'm confused with the numbers we keep seeing on VGC. It appears as if the shipments are still selling out rapidly and we know Sony can produce at least 1 million consoles a month ... So how do we then arrive at a figure of 140,000 for the week? I know it's worth considering the Japanese launch but I still don't think that accounts for these numbers.

Easy, Sony shipped 4,2 mi last year.

When they anounced that number in early January we all assumed they shipped more than that, ~ 5mi.

So, in theory Sony had ZERO consoles to sell the first 2 weeks of January. And we know that was not the case, there were many units WW for whole month. Unless, of course, Sony counts their shippment very differently than Microsoft.

A interesting way to figure out if there are new batches from factory is if the new consoles still require the mandatory day one update. Or just look at the firmware version.

Holy shit dude stop living in that bubble. Sony sold 4.2 million consoles, not shipped. Either go educate yourself on what sold-through means or stop talking about things you have no clue of.

There aren't a lot of people on this site trying so hard to be so wrong.

What? If you are selling out and having to restock constantly, you know exactly how many you are selling to customers. Sony wouldn't say 'sold through' if they meant 'shipped'. That sounds like wishful thinking to me.  To put it simply: retailer (a) has a shipment of 100,000 units. a week later they need another 100,000 units. This means the PS4 'sold through' 100,000 units in the previous week. Eventually Sony won't be able to give such concrete numbers because they won't be selling a well, but as of now, they know EXACTLT how many PS4s are selling to customers.

Well, I´ve seen many, many, many, doubting Microsoft numbers. I think they tried harder.

I not trying to negate anything. Just to have a concise and logic "history".

I´m just educating people that shipping numbers are the only 100% reliable and everything else are just guestimates.

Sony was a dick in budling PS3+PS4 shippments. The fact is that PS4 didn´t sellout everywhere in the world and they had units in transit by the last week of december, if we belive VGChartz they had close to 500k units to sell the first two weeks of January, however, most of USA supply hit the shelves at the last two weeks.

That's completely irrelevent. When they announced the 4.2 'SOLD THROUGH' (to customers) they were talking ONLY of the PS4. Where are you getting the 'didn't sell out' and 'units in transit' from? It sound as if you're tinkering with the truth in order to justify your own conclusion.

Just stop. PS4 sold out everywhere in the world, people are starving to get one, it's February, imagine how dire the situation looked back in the busy holiday month of December.
