The only number companies can be 100% sure are shipped numbers. Sony shipped no more than 4,3mi units, that is the only and final hard data we have from last December. And that is cloudy because Sony bundled PS3 shippments along PS4s. When a unit gets to the retail the manufactors have little to no way to track its day-to-day sales. They do a very similar job as VGChartz or NPD. Might be that they receve some directly retail reports (and that´s is may be why Sony UK knows how much ahead they are from Microsoft there). |
What? If you are selling out and having to restock constantly, you know exactly how many you are selling to customers. Sony wouldn't say 'sold through' if they meant 'shipped'. That sounds like wishful thinking to me. To put it simply: retailer (a) has a shipment of 100,000 units. a week later they need another 100,000 units. This means the PS4 'sold through' 100,000 units in the previous week. Eventually Sony won't be able to give such concrete numbers because they won't be selling a well, but as of now, they know EXACTLT how many PS4s are selling to customers.
The PS5 Exists.
