But I don't think TSMC can produce 1.5m PS4's APUs per month... they have to produce to nVidia, AMD, Microsoft and others. So I believe TSMC is supplying Sony with ~1.2m chips max per month... 1m is not out of question too. What can happen in the next months is TSMC decreasing the production of Xbone's APUs due MS started to ask less because the slow demand of the console... so this space can be fit with more PS4's APUs for Sony if they want. |
If less demand from MS might lead to a marginal increase in Sony's output might be interestng, but they're not likely to increase it much just due to their already maxed out production capacity for the consoles themselves. That might actually put an interesting spin on the topic of Sony using other production sites, particularly Brasil where there are tariff issues: local production there may be helpful both for the Brasil market and exporting globally to relieve global demand. Although the actual issues of doing that involve many factors, such as their probably custom powersupply builder, GDDR, etc.
Regardless, I just don't see how they can fit a Japan launch in now, honestly... And really, I don't understant WHY they would go ahead with a Japan launch when they can just slam dunk the US marketshare with the amount of consoles they would divert to Japan. Japan isn't going anywhere, so if they delay the launch there, no big deal IMHO. EDIT: No offence Japan gamer folk
