Forums - Sony - Do you think Sony will ignore Vita at E3 2014?

What will happen at E3 2014?

Sony will focus on PS4 co... 131 54.36%

Sony will give more Vita ... 110 45.64%

Total:241

I think no handheld console can live well in the west nowadays because of smartphones, except nintendo consoles, mostly because it appeals to large public like child or women, without this public, i'm not sure 3DS would do better in the west than Vita.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Ubisoft said they are happy with the sale of  Assasin Creed Liberation so how the hell you said none of the games sold well Call of duty is a really bad game with a small budget i'm sure Activision got a good amount of income.

Fifa 2013 would be a million sellers if it was not the same game as Fifa Soccer same for Fifa 2014

Late port will not save vita but spin off can save it and i'm tired to hear about games better suited on handheld and other better suited on console Uncharted is console like game, lbp is better suited to handheld but Uncharted outsold lbp by a lot.

I didnt say Ubisoft were unhappy though? My point was that none of the software sales on the PSV really encourages third parties to invest heavily in the platform. So ubisoft wanted 600k sales..whose to say that number brings in a profit? What if that was just enough to break even?  Selling 900k units on an expected 600k doesnt really entice Ubisoft to go out an build a AAA PSV exclusive. They will probably just make another spin off and again that wont really save the vita. I dont see how you can say that? I mean what evidence do you have to back up that claim?

And also the fact that Activision released a subpar game for their premium franchise on the PSV says it all really. They already dont have any confidence in the platform. They clearly not willing to invest in the PSV. And whether the PSV cod was a bad game or a low budget game those sales wont entice them to invest heavily in the PSV. I think you have too much faith in the reasonable expectations of Activision :P

As for your Fifa comment...do you really think casual Fifa fans know that a game is rehashed? Look at COD? Hell even Fifa on the PS3 was practically unchanged until FIFA 14!

As for your last comment..theres nothing really for you to back it up. Sony has tried home console games on a handheld and quite frankly it doesnt sell well. It didnt sell well on the PSP and it doesnt sell well on the PSV.

Do you think a editors will be happy if it's game are profitable,i will be happy if they release another spin off,i think it's you who should proove that Assasin Creed Liberation is not profitable.

How could a editors don't have confidence in a platform when they don't make any effort,Call of duty Black ops 2 sold 0.21 million is 4 ime less then psv one do you think a game who sold 0.21 will generate more income then a game who sold 0.8 million. If action didn't make another Vita call of duty because of bad sale why they make another call of duty on wii u when the first sold horribly.

Yes fifa fans now the games is rehashed i don't think they are so much stupid i not a fans of soccer games but i think Fifa 2014 have better graphics some new move etc cod games should have new maps,a new story better multiplayer.

Sony try handheld game on vita and it sold a lot worst then their console game on vita,Uncharted is a console like game and it's a millions sellers ,Tearaway is a handheld like game and it can't even sold a half millions.

I wasnt asking you to prove that Ubisoft made a profit. I was simply saying that we dont know what the margins were with the 900k sales. Ubisoft could have meant anything with the expected 600k. Il ask this again...do you think Ubisoft will increase their investment in the PSV based on the sales of liberation? Because i seriously doubt it.

Other than that I think you are missing my point. I'm not saying third parties wont publish games on the PSV im saying they wont invest in the platform in any significant way.

Until games start selling well third parties wont increase their investment. The problem is they need to make good games in order for them to sell...its a bad cycle and thats why console manufacturers need to lead the way when it comes to showing the viabiliy of the console. Sony has failed to do that.

And really Fifa fans have been buying EVERY fifa on the PS3 since Fifa06! The game didnt really change much up until 2014! I've played every one of them!

I don't understand what you mean by increasing their investment if they make game they will surely increase their investement.
Can you explain me why Activison make ghost on wii u when black ops sale really bad worst then call of duty desclasified.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Well like you said not much effort was put into the PSV by western third party publishers. As a result their games havent sold well. Because their games havent sold well and the system in general hasnt sold well...they wont be investing in the platform beyond what they are already doing. What are they currently doing?

- porting console games

- releasing spin offs (some good some bad)

- some devs not supporting at all

Theres nothing enticing the publishers to put in more effort/more money into the platform. New AAA IP's tailor made for the system! Nope none of that. AAA spin off titles! Nope not much of that either.

That is what i mean by "won't increase their investment". Activision probably wont be releasing an amazing AAA COD on the PSV anytime soon. Or what about a new IP FPS made specifically for the Vita? EA probably wont release a ground up PSV centric AAA Fifa or any sports game for that matter. Ubisoft will probably just release liberation 2 with the same scope as the first. And so on etc.

Third parties will probably just keep doing what they doing. This wont help the system any more than it already has/hasnt.

Sony does not care about the Vita. They've made that perfectly clear. The Vita is now a Playstation Now device.

How do you explain  Japan Studio  creating more games for Vita than PS4 or PS3 if sony doesnt care ?

They care about gamers , a game doesnt need to be a big system seller.

How do you explain the almost total lack of advertising, the lack of stage presence at big events like E3, the general lack of software for the console (Killzone and Tearaway being pretty much the only big titles to come solely from Sony), and the overall lack of concern.  Look how Nintendo reacted to the 3DS's struggles, then look at Sony's reaction to the Vita.  Sony simply doesn't seem invested in the console's future.

It's factually wrong, sony is invested in the console's futur, a console is meant to play games, good amount of games coming in 2014, they make games for it and ask fo games to 3rd party, so they are invested.

I'm talking about games support, only important thing for a gamer and you talk about advertising...

I dont think Nintendo is a good example seeing how they react to the Wii U's struggles, they dont support it more than Sony support Vita in fact when you look at 2014 ( and they have much less 3rd party support coming )

Advertisement is important.  How do consoles get game support?  By generating an install base.  No advertisement=no sales=no games.  No advertisement means Sony doesn't want to invest money in the console.  They're giving it the smallest amount of support possible and it shows.

As for games, the only games Sony is making for it are...

a) Indie games with a shoestring budget.

b) Ports of PS3 games that take minimal effort and resources.

c) Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway.

Seriously, those were the only retail exclusives developed by Sony and released in the US.  They also published Soul Sacrifice (in the US I think) and Epic Mickey (for some bizarre reason).

By contrast, Nintendo cut the price on the Wii U when they saw it was failing way quicker than Sony did, advertised it more heavily, and produced more games.  Wind Waker HD (a port, but still completely remade with a new engine and all before you compare it to something like MLB the Show), Pikmin 3, Game and Wario, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, and publisher for Wonderful 101 and Lego City (which were totally funded by Nintendo unlike something like Epic Mickey 2). This is also a newer system where game releases typically tend to be slower.  The Vita should have worked through its drought by now.

I'm definitely not trying to say the Wii U is doing well, but Nintendo is doing a lot more to support it than the Vita.  In the West, Sony is supporting the Vita as little as possible without outright discontinuing it.  They're trying to keep it alive mainly as an accessory for the PS4 and as a Playstation Now device in the future.

This is a stupid way of thinking i not talk about you but about third party.

You interpretation of why third party don't support vita is like a student who had an exam and didn't put any effort to get a good mark when he get his result he had a really low mark and then decide to abondon his study he never think that if he made efoort before the exam he would get a really good mark and continue his studies.

When you don't make effort at anything you will never succed.

Activision could at least port ghost on vita just like they ported it on wii u.

No need to have a huge install base to sell games( persona 4G/Ys Celceta are a good example compared to the previous on PSP), the games create the install base and publishers know that, this is why it's getting more and more games from Japan, they see a lot of people are interested to play their games on Vita.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

it is 3rd-party developers ignoring Vita that causes it always have nothing much to show rather than Sony ignore it...

We don't yet know what's coming out in 2014, but if you're trying to compare the Vita's lineup to the Wii U's, you still don't have a leg to stand on...  The only game you mentioned that's actually being developed by Sony is Freedom Wars (and they have two other studios working on that) because Sony does not want to use their developers for the Vita.

Wii U has Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Smash Bros U, X, most likely Yarn Yoshi, and will fund/publish Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors.  These are larger projects, most of which are being developed by Nintendo themselves (or Nintendo owned studios) or at the very least are solely funded by Nintendo. Of course, things could change over the course of the year, but based on what we know, Nintendo is putting far more resources into the Wii U.

And yes, you do need a large install base to sell games.  Persona 4 Golden sold 600k copies.  That's not enough to create a thriving market.  And that's the exception to the rule.  That's the highest selling Japanese developed third party game, and the third best selling third party game overall.  Those sales are going to be unacceptable to all but smaller Japanese developers.  So you'll see support from those guys, but few games will be localized.
