Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: both PS4 and Xbox One will "sell a ton", online hate "needs to go away"

Its a hollow gesture in that as others have mentioned, if they were on top they wouldnt be saying these sorts of things, they would be gloating from the rooftops trying to get a few extra nails in the coffin.

While the gesture is nice its more of a 'look everyone please be nice to us, we will even say nice things about the competition to show we have changed" meanwhile Aarons on Facebook milking the NPD figures for all they're worth and everyone else at MS PR are doing their best to talk down the competitions physical advantages.

Hollow, hollow indeed.

And frankly, if it was kaz saying this Sony fans would be praising him like Xbox fans are doing right now for nelson, and Xbox fans would be saying exactly what I'm saying.

P.s. the only people that benefit from the war ending at Microsoft, he knows that so its the reason he's actually playing nice.

I wish they could speak so well even when they're winning. It's easy to be humble when you're the one losing.

if only he was that vocal in 2007

I seem to remember Sony being much more arrogant and feeding into the console warfare thing back then more than anyone else, while M$ and Nintendo were the ones pointing at sales figures to do their smack talking.

I could be wrong, but I don't ever remember seeing one article or comment from Sony praising either M$'s or Nintendo's success last gen... in fact I seem to remember Sony hurling out petty insults like this...

Sony Chief: Nintendo Products Are 'Babysitting Tools'

It can be argued that MS is mainly only doing it now because they arent in position of power now anymore and they cant do anything else BUT be humble

And it would be hard for Sony to "praise" MS back then when MS were pretty much targetting Sony

And i remember Phil Harrison saying decent things when he was at Sony in those times

Microsoft have this year been really good on PR.

They have commeneded Sony all year. Even after their launch. And hes right. The online hate is really bad now. It was much better when in the Nes and Snes days you had to do it face to face as there were no online and no mods. These days Id love to meet the people who swear and moan online at you. They wouldn't do it then would they.

Anyways. Im staying out of any thread which says Sony in it. I have no interest in them or talking about them. So that way I wont ever comment on anything remotely Sony.

Even defending Microsoft from the fans.

They get under your skin and hurt your feelings when they say things about your beloved plastic huh, Sely sel?

Except long term he's wrong. This generation is not going to see HW growth over last generation, even though current sales have broken records. PS4 probably won't reach PS3 and Xb one certainly won't exceed Xbox 360. 3DS is gong to fall far far short of DS, and PSV is a major disppointment sales-wise. And the less said about Wii U's prospects vs. Wii the better.

These last couple of months has been a bright spark in what is otherwise going to be a pretty depressing looking generation for console sales. IMO these record sales for Nov and December are just another example of how front-loaded the sales are of highly anticipated video game products.

Take CoD on 360 for example.
Cod4:MW sold 47% of its lifetime sales in the first 10 weeks.
Black Ops sold 77% of its lifetime sales in the first 10 weeks.
MW3 (the peak game of the CoD franchise) sold 84% of its lifetime sales in the first 10 weeks.
Black Ops II, which will fall short of Blck Ops, also sold 83% probable lifetime sales (I'm adding about 500K to current, which might be a bit generous).

But more tellingly Black Ops II opening 10 weeks was slightly higher than Black Ops opening 10 weeks. And this is where I think console sales are at. Opening period (even first year) might be impressive and much higher than previous generations, but the legs won't be there IMO.

Hyrb is right that the hate should go away, but I think he's misreading the market.

All that online hate is directed towards Microsoft anyways.

They bought Xbone.com because they didn't like the mockery but by doing so they made the name official.
