Except long term he's wrong. This generation is not going to see HW growth over last generation, even though current sales have broken records. PS4 probably won't reach PS3 and Xb one certainly won't exceed Xbox 360. 3DS is gong to fall far far short of DS, and PSV is a major disppointment sales-wise. And the less said about Wii U's prospects vs. Wii the better.

These last couple of months has been a bright spark in what is otherwise going to be a pretty depressing looking generation for console sales. IMO these record sales for Nov and December are just another example of how front-loaded the sales are of highly anticipated video game products.

Take CoD on 360 for example.
Cod4:MW sold 47% of its lifetime sales in the first 10 weeks.
Black Ops sold 77% of its lifetime sales in the first 10 weeks.
MW3 (the peak game of the CoD franchise) sold 84% of its lifetime sales in the first 10 weeks.
Black Ops II, which will fall short of Blck Ops, also sold 83% probable lifetime sales (I'm adding about 500K to current, which might be a bit generous).

But more tellingly Black Ops II opening 10 weeks was slightly higher than Black Ops opening 10 weeks. And this is where I think console sales are at. Opening period (even first year) might be impressive and much higher than previous generations, but the legs won't be there IMO.

Hyrb is right that the hate should go away, but I think he's misreading the market.
