3.9 million Xbox One consoles shipped!!!

24.5 billion USD revenue
6.558 billion USD net income

Xbox hardware (both consoles) + Xbox Live + Surface = 4.7 billion USD revenue
Xbox hardware (both consoles) + Xbox Live + Surface = 411 million USD gross Margin

Remember: This does not include first party software sales! (Forza Motorsport 5, LocoCycle, ZooTycoon, Killer Instinct)

Any reason behind this?

The consoles are under "Devices and Consumer Hardware" the games are under "Devices and Consumer Other"

Infact his figure do not include Xbox Live as they are also under "Devices and Consumer Other"

The figures should look like this

Devices and Consumer Hardware

Xbox hardware (both consoles) + Surface + plus any other hardware = 4.7 billion USD revenue
Xbox hardware (both consoles) + Surface + plus any other hardware = 411 million USD gross Margin

Devices and Consumer Other

Xbox LIVE + games + Search advertising + Office 365 Home Premium subscribers = 1.793 billion USD revenue

Xbox LIVE + games + Search advertising + Office 365 Home Premium subscribers = 431 million USD gross Margin

900k on shelves, nostradamus please, it's not even out everywhere yet and we are not even at the peak of what the X1 will sale on a weekly basis (hence why they would keep higher supply in stock) 5 to 600k on shelves would make way more sense, unless stuff the channels everywhere of course :P

Which countries would that be? Germany is around 100k units, and that is one of the biggest markets (and Amazon.de shipped units left and right). 900k is probably a good part for the rest of the world for quite some time...

The Xbox One has only released in 13 countries. It's not available in most of Europe, almost all of South America, and all of Asia. Those 900k are already shipped out to distributor

Did you even read the thread? Learn how much time it takes to ship containers from China to Europe/America/Africa (Hint: You can actually go to the website of the big freight companies and check the exact duration. You could even check which ships are involved).

And can we stop with this silly "only in 13 countries once and for all? It is available in Europe's entirety. Think Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Anazon.uk, Amazon.it.. Europe has, to a large extent, been covered for those people who "must have" an XBox One.

If that was the case, why bother releasing it in other countries; according to you Amazon has it covered.  All these bricks and mortar game stores must be fighting over the scraps.  Applying your logic, when the XBox One does officially launch in the other European countries sales will be very, very low as anyone who wanted one will already have ordered it from Amazon.de or one of the others you listed. Really?

I would not buy an item costing that much from another country when it may arrive damaged or develop a fault, when i know it will be released in my country at a later date.  Yes, you could arrange to send it back but there is added hassle.  I think I am in the majority.

Where is the bulk of the profit coming from? I'm very ignorant on this matter.

Three main cash cows used to be Server & Tools (SQL, Azure, .NET framework), Office and Windows.
Now the whole organisation has been changed so these products are in different divisions now, but they are still the most profitable ones.

The EDD (Xbox, Surface, WinPhone) was posting healthy profits as well, just not as big as the ones I mentioned. Bing used to be the only not-profitable business, but it started to move in the right direction.

"Windows", "Server & Tools" and "Office" sofware divisions are still going to be the big 3 for MS, though with the new labels for divisions it seems to make it  less transparent and harder to read individual results for each.  Anyways, below are the 2013 fiscal year results where you can see those 3 divsions making the bulk of the operating income.

Operating income fy2013 by division (In millions)

$   9,504       - Windows Division

$   8,164        - Server and Tools

$ -(1,281)      - Online Services Division

$ 16,194       - Microsoft Business Division (the Office division)

$       848      - Entertainment and Devices Division

$ -(6,665)    - Corporate-Level Activity

------------------------------------

$   26,764     - total Operating income fy2013

Windows Division

Windows Division develops and markets operating systems for computing devices, related software and online services, Surface RT and Pro devices, and PC accessories. This collection of software, hardware, and services is designed to empower individuals, companies, and organizations and to simplify everyday tasks through seamless operations across the user's hardware and software.

Server and Tools

Server and Tools develops and markets technology and related services that enable information technology professionals and their systems to be more productive and efficient. Server and Tools product and service offerings include Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Azure, Visual Studio, System Center products, Windows Embedded device platforms, and Enterprise Services.

Online Services Division

Online Services Division ("OSD") develops and markets information and content designed to help people simplify tasks and make more informed decisions online, and help advertisers connect with audiences. OSD offerings include Bing, Bing Ads, and MSN. Bing and MSN generate revenue through the sale of search and display advertising, accounting for nearly all of OSD's revenue.

Microsoft Business Division

Microsoft Business Division ("MBD") develops and markets software and online services designed to increase personal, team, and organization productivity. MBD offerings include the Microsoft Office system ("Office," comprising mainly the core Office product set, Office 365, SharePoint, Exchange, and Lync), which generates over 90% of MBD revenue, and Microsoft Dynamics business solutions.

Entertainment and Devices Division

Entertainment and Devices Division ("EDD") develops and markets products and services designed to entertain and connect people. EDD offerings include the Xbox entertainment platform (which includes the Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment console, Kinect for Xbox 360, Xbox 360 video games, Xbox LIVE, and Xbox 360 accessories), Skype, and Windows Phone, including related patent licensing revenue.

Corporate-Level Activity

Certain corporate-level activity is not allocated to our segments, including costs of: broad-based sales and marketing; product support services; human resources; legal; finance; information technology; corporate development and procurement activities; research and development; costs of operating our retail stores; and legal settlements and contingencies.

You have to search really hard and pick really nitty to find any bad here. Fantastic numbers all around. Future is bright too.

But MS specifically announced how much they had sold by the endof the quarter they're currently announcing shipments for.  Are you saying the MS undertracked themselves?

...

Congrats micro

a) notice that I wrote "must have" people. And yes, I do not expect much higher numbers than the average expected from "NON must have" people. Those "non must have people" are the ones that are waiting for official release (although, like in X360's case, several countries might never see an official release at all - still they have their MediaMarkt equivalents selling X360s...)

b) depending on country, you can save a sh"tton of money going Amazon. Switzerland is an extreme example, since you can save (using msrp values) roughly $150. That is why there are plenty of XBox One owners right now in Switzerland..

c) umpteen thousands of people ordered on Amazon.us. Obviously you are in a small minority concerning this argument.

And as I have explained, on December 31st, there were probably 6 to 8 ships carrying containers with XBox Ones on sea transit. At no time were there even close to 900k units on shelves.
