That kind of game wont be popular in this day and age, that is what people are trying to tell you. Doesnt matter how good the story is cause who is playing an arcade space shooter for story in the first place? Probably a reason why these types of games arent made. Its not like the 3ds one sold gangbusters and didnt that have a MP mode? |
I already said in my original post that the reason, in my opinion, that 64 3d didn't sell a TON was because it was released prior to the 3ds taking off. Once the 3ds took off, newer games were more popular and fresh on people's minds. If Nintendo released 64 3d today, it would sell a lot more in my opinion. That being said, it still sold a decent amount for a 15 year rerelease. And yes it has multiplayer, but it was local only if memory serves me, so they didn't go all out on it.
What was wrong with StarFox Assault? It was one of my all time favorites on the GC.

7th starwars is not far away and it will revive the spaceship combat genre, Nintendo better be ready this time

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

if people were really interested they would buy it, period. its called legs I think you are overstating the popularity of the franchise but to each his own
| Dulfite said: You guys that say Starfox isn't needed because of it's past sales are kind of missing my point. What I'm saying is that I THINK that Nintendo could turn Starfox into something that is way more popular than it currently is, if they make it an epic starfox 64/rogue squadron like game with an amazing story and (personally I think this next part would help) online battles and ranking systems. I can't think of any other game that it would have competition with on any other console. I could be wrong, but are there other spaceship battle games that are popular currently? I'm not aware of any. So Nintendo could essentially have the monopoly on that genre altogether, which would make Starfox ridiculously desirable. |
Unfortunatly, StarFox series isn't that big. They can make it popular by making it similar to StarFox Assault with better land/spaceship missions.

Let me start off by saying that I am one of the rare few that actually liked Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Command.
Anyways, I think the best thing Nintendo can do with Star Fox at this point is to reboot it in a similar fashion as the Tomb Raider reboot. Just call it Star Fox, start the story over but keep it inspired by the original story. Maybe you can start off playing as James McCloud with his team until he is betrayed by Pigma, and then lead into the Star Fox 64 story but with new scenarios, new characters, new vehicles, and maybe new story elements. I wouldn't even mind on ground missions coming back, as long as they're supported with a solid third person shooter engine this time. Also, if a solid third person shooter engine is made, they could have an uncharted 2-like online multiplayer mode, with heroes vs. villains team matches except you can board arwings and landmasters like in Star Fox Assault.
I don't think Nintendo needs to rely on the Star Fox name to be able to sell the game, just show how much of a quality product it is and the new cinematic side of it and I think it will sell well.

Your not alone, I enjoyed StarFox Assault. I liked the ground missions, but at times the combat did suck. The ground missions weren't that bad, were they?

I actually had a lot of fun with the on ground gameplay, especially in multiplayer mode, but there is definitely room for improvement. I think making the character's animations smoother, balancing out weapon effectiveness (I felt like the grenades were useless), and introducing a cover mechanic would help make those segments better.
