Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Nintendo has Begun Development on a Next-Generation Machine

Related: http://dualpixels.com/2014/01/06/rumor-geno-provides-information-supposed-next-gen-pokemon-games-plus-minus/

Anyway, 3DS was announced on 2010, 5 years ago(yeah, i know, i feel old too). Pokemon X Y took 3 years to be made. So its wise trying to bring a pokemon title as a launch title. Nintendo take 1,5 years between announcment and actual release, so everything is possible.

The building that would unify the internal nitenndo divisions is ready. Lets wait and see.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I still doubt it, assuming the 3DS has a lifespam similar to the DS its gonna be around for 7 years, starting development on the next handheld after 2 years seems kinda dumb since so many things can change in that time.

Well, we can potentially assume that it may last as long as DS, but that doesn't mean much since developing a system prior to official unveiling takes a few years to accomplish, so it's not completely out of the question that they have started already. They officially announced the DS a little over 2 years after the GBA released near the end of 2003, and released the following year. IF they just started their plans in 2013, they probably already have a vendor for their next handhelds' silicon, and are probably customizing and developing the architecture, that takes time.

I'm pretty sure I've read enough interviews on machines past to believe this and not be surprised. In fact I feel like I've read a few interviews on different gen consoles that stated "we started work on this console as soon as the last one was released. I don't think this is out of the norm. Now if we had detailed specifics of a new machine i'd be shocked and skeptical.

captain obvious that gaf dude.

Nintendo stated in the past once they done with working on a system they move onto the next. Research and development takes time lol.

[...] Question is, will they introduce us to the 4th dimension with a 4DS?

Yes, just when you thought Nintendo was out of ideas for handheld innovation, they give us a time traveling device.

Nintendo is always designing new hardware... their hardware teams don't just go on vacation for four years after their consoles launch...

I'd be stunned if they haven't.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Assuming this is legit, it's probably a new new handheld. It would be dumb to come out with a console too early because it will easily be eclipsed by the PS5 and the fourth Xbox (assuming those consoles will exist) in 2-3 years. This will necessitate the creation another console in order to keep up with THAT competition, along with the massive development costs that come with it.

Combine that handheld with console. Make a handheld that is the future.
