Forums - Gaming - Your main console just pulled a Dreamcast, now what?

Well I have the other platforms already so my hardware purchases would be unaffected, but I'd be sad to see Sony go as I perceive their attitude towards gaming to be the closest to my own among the big three with story focused and quirky little niche stuff being given more emphasis than the other two seem to give them.

The problem is I don't see any of the current makes doing a SEGA. Even if their sales are poor they all have enough to fall back on and still make a tidy little profit.

Anyway in the event that happened it wouldn't impact me as I get them all eventually. What will impact my decision though is how far away they go form being consoles to being PCs in a box. The day they become almost a PC is the day I will probably go back fully to PC gaming. By then Sony will have their streaming game service and I will be able to enjoy their games on any device lol.

Cross fingers that Sony games appear on future Nintendo hardware Aside from Sony support everything seems to be on PC these days, but getting the Ninty stuff AND Sony stuff on one system would be great. PC would cover everything else.

I always have a gaming pc besides a Nintendo console.

Nintendo won't be a 3rd party developer.
Consoles might be old-fashioned in the future, but Nintendo will produce them as long as they exist.

The Wii U has bad sales numbers, but the situation isn't similar to the Dreamcast. They still have tons on money.

You could have just asked the Sega fans themselves with the title: Your main console WAS a Dreamcast...now what?"

They seem to have all moved on. I don't want to bring up bad memories...

The same thing as I did when Sega went down: give everybody a chance, and if I find something worthy, stick with it.

I'd go from Nintendo to Sony. Not a really hard decision to make, since I own every Sony system except for PS2 and PS4 right now and would have no problem with getting a PS4 (will probably get one 2 - 3 years from now anyway). In the event of Nintendo making some games (that spark my interest) exclusive to Microsoft's console and some to Sony's (like Sega has done with MS/Sony and Nintendo (Sonic Series, in particular)), I'd buy an Xbox One as well.

Add me if you like!

Ask me about 3DS Friend Code if interested. All other things are in the profile!

At the time, my favorite console DID pull a Dreamcast...because it was the Dreamcast. So, if experience is a teacher, what I'd do now is what I did then. Snatch up every title I'm even remotely interested in and beg people to see what they were missing when the titles get ported to other consoles.

Also, I'd just switch favorite consoles. Life must go on. Your dead console wouldn't want you living in the past.

If Nintendo went down, I'd weep for awhile of the future of my beloved hobby, then just stick with retro Nintendo, Xbox 360, PC, and eventually Xbox One once it got to a reasonable price.

I don't have a main console for 8th gen yet but if the PS3 went under I would've moved to the 360.
