A petition for an HD port/remake of the first game on Gamecube has been around for a while:

It would make a lot of sense considering the use of GBA-GC connectivity the game had, which could be well replicated with WiiU's gamepad. Not to mention the current trend of HD remasters we see these days...

how can that be replicated when only one pad is used per system. GC used 4 GBAs at a time

Ha, that's a good point... I didn't think about that... Maybe you can have an online option for the rest ? It's not the same, but it's something.

The option to use 3DS is also there, but of course, the old issue remains...

Now I'm wondering what happened with the idea of supporting 2 gamepads at once... That would help...

having two pads at once would barely alleviate the problem

I dont know, Ninty has been quiet about that i dont think that feature will be implemented untill Wii U does better. IMHO i dont think it will ever happen as i dont see any games coming that will even allow for that feature even from Ninty's own games.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

The original game was a mess. Worked excellently with friends, but who had 3 GBA's plus link cables? Not my friend group, or we did but we lost one of the cables. So that was it for us. Single player was completely arse thanks to that stupid chalice and no AI to help you.

Echoes of time was a lot of fun, but technically limited. Enjoyed it a lot more than the original though.

And Crystal Bearers was an enjoyable experiment. I don't really get the hate. It wasn't trying to be a mainline entry; and it I think it achieved mixing gameplay mechanics very well.

I'd love to see what they could do on the Wii-U.

Won't happen though. Wii entries sold terribly; Wii-U is doing terribly; SE are more interested in iOS. Doesn't make for a great combination. And Dragon Quest seems to be the Nintendo-exclusive franchise going forward.

Yes! I've only played the GCN original and Ring of Fates, but I enjoyed both.

i like Crrystal chronicles sub saga. i would gladly buy a new instalment on WiiU. a HD remaster with online MP of the GC original would be awesome though

They'll make one for ios and then maybe port it to the U for $60 retail copy. Rest of their resources are busy trying to get a game out which was announced almost a decade ago.

The Crystal Bearers had a lot going for it, and a lot of potential. It had really good graphics, a great soundtrack, tolerable voice acting, etc. The main thing that held it back, was a lack of realization of it's main gameplay mechanic, and the controls themselves. It didn't control BADLY, but it should have been better. And while they had a genius gameplay mechanic in the TK power for Layle, they wasted it by basically only letting you use it to levitate things above your head, and then throw them at other things, with the occasional "manipulate that lever from a distance" type of deal thrown in. There were other small issues, chief among them being the battle system out in open areas where there is an invisible timer (you literally can't see it) that goes off, and when it does, all the enemies go away, whether you've beaten them or not. And then later when you come back to an area? The enemies are back, which robs a sense of accomplishment in "clearing" an area. Another being that they really could have stood to make more NPC's interactive with the player, as there are a lot of NPC's especially in the city that you can't interact with at all, unless you levitate them and throw them around.

The problem with this game, and what kept it from being great, instead of just decent, was the fact that in the (very well done) cut scenes, Layle can do ALL kinds of amazing shit with his powers. And if you're anything like me, that just leaves the player sitting there going "why can't I do that in the GAME?" It's obvious that they spent a good amount of time developing the game, they obviously crafted an at least fairly interesting game world and story, they took the time the make the graphics actually look pretty great for a Wii game, made a good soundtrack, and semi-solid item forging system, etc. But if they had JUST taken the time to bother fleshing out the TK gameplay concept more, use the potential of the Wiimote and it's IR pointer to greater effect in telekinetically interacting with the game world, making more things IN the game world manipulable, etc., basically, if they had bothered to make it so that you could do even half the stuff Layle does in the cut-scenes, the game could have been truly special.

As it is, it IS a good game. It's worth playing, and I felt worth owning. It just doesn't live up to it's potential. Which is why I'd love to see a Crystal Bearers 2 on Wii U. With the Gamepad, they could possibly do the TK power a lot more elaborately, and with more console power and disc space, they could have a huge, more fleshed out and interactive world.

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

Online play. They can improve on the concept in many ways, you don't need to be restricted to the same screen, it could be an online game only to push the infrastructure and offer it for a reduced price 40 U$.

that wouldnt replicate the GC experience at all. And SE isnt making an online crystal bearers. they barely got 14 going

I never played the Wii game, but I did own the Gamecube game. It was just so boring. I just never had any fun with it. So I really don't care about this spin-off. I would rather just see a port of the mainline game.
