Forums - Sales - MS lied about >3million, is actually at 2.8 or 2.9m (famousmortimer rumor)

Once again Peszus I believe you are completely missing the point, which is actually about integrity.

Reporting accurate numbers is important as soon as you start distoring them (e.g round up to nearest million lol) then it casts everything you say into doubt.

for example and also VGChartz is also 100,000 under on the sony reported PS4 numbers so this casts VGChartz into doubt

it's illegal for Microsoft to lie about sales and misinform investors. This article is bullshit. If Microsoft sold under 3 million Microsoft would have said 'Xbox One sold around 3 million'

while i don't really think MS lied..

...the PR statement MS made is not a legally binding statement and they are not required to be truthful.  the US is protected with free speech and just recently a politician's right to lie about a faked military service backgroud was upheld in the supreme court as protected free speech.   There are very few things that are legally required to be truthful: court room testimony (perjury) and financial records are two of them.  PR statements are not.

people are way too sensitive over some rumours just because they happen to be negative. Not their fault MS has done a lot of negative things this year. They were correct quite a bit and some turned out to be not true, what is the big deal? Don't see the need to the Anti gaf witch hunt here lol.

I have more suspicious about the 4,2 with shagy rest of the world sales and unfullfiled pre-orders than anything else.

But, nice try from that Sony guy, 2,8mi is still a very strong number.

Just because he tells you it's a source that has never been wrong doesn't mean he's telling the truth, he's been trolling for years.

Why is everything MS do/say questionable these days to the point where some guy on a forum is auto believed?

Who was it who peddled the yield issues??

agreed!

Sony fans always bash everything microsoft does. There are alot of guys here that are well known sony fans. I take whatever they say like a grain of salt.

Stop responding to propaganda with more propaganda. The number of terrorities isnt relevant, it is the demand within said territories.

What I meant is that MS announced that number around 16 hours after launch, and there were still plenty of Ones in stock in places. (yet they claimed sold out almost everywhere)

You don't know that and frankly, you resorting to what-ifs and maybes over something like this surprises me.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Microsoft are unlikely to know when end consumers buy their console. They just have sales figures to retail stores and wholesalers. They will likely have to estimate the difference between shipped and end user purchases and this figure they can make up in their favour. I.e. no unsold stock. If questioned they can say at the time we believed there was no stock held at retail due to demand.

I think the Xbox One is off to a surprisingly good start but I think as performance differences become more evident sales will switch more to ps4.

We shall see though. I plan to buy both eventually and don't have fanboy loyalty to either brand. Which ever console provides the best gaming experience will be my favourite. I think this will likely be ps4. I am annoyed about Xbox One pricing though so will probably have to wait a long time before the price is acceptable to me.

Don't confuse disagreeing or debunking as being "sensitive" to rumors. If I went and posted a BS rumor about the PS4 it would be loaded with people being "sensitive" about it. And what is this anti GAF witch hunt? Like one post in the whole thread has mentioned them in a negative way.

Nu-uh, that dude who works at a Target store told him so plus all those pics of unsold stock allows for a more accurate guesstimation than VGC/MS could ever come up with.

I... don't think they're allowed to lie to their investors like this. And I don't believe they would do, especially since there's so little to gain from it other than a bit of epeen and some slight damage control.

So yeah, no. Don't believe this.

It was a press release, not a statement during an investor's briefing. That makes it free game for spin.

And if you know that you shipped, say, 3.5m consoles by December 31st, there's no way for anyone to verify that over 3m sellthrough was a lie.

Sony stock prices jumped when Haz stated at CES the numbers of Xperias sold in 2013.

It was a very diffuse and vage statment "twice 2011 sales".

Those kind of declaration do affect the stock market and can´t be made lightly, or with the purpuse of artificialy inflate stock holders optimism. However we are the only ones that care if its 100k off.

If they say they sold "twice" 10mi, it could be any thing from 17mi to 19,99mi and no one on the market would fling.

People here would be shocked on how lose the stock market is with accuracy.
