Microsoft are unlikely to know when end consumers buy their console. They just have sales figures to retail stores and wholesalers. They will likely have to estimate the difference between shipped and end user purchases and this figure they can make up in their favour. I.e. no unsold stock. If questioned they can say at the time we believed there was no stock held at retail due to demand.

I think the Xbox One is off to a surprisingly good start but I think as performance differences become more evident sales will switch more to ps4.

We shall see though. I plan to buy both eventually and don't have fanboy loyalty to either brand. Which ever console provides the best gaming experience will be my favourite. I think this will likely be ps4. I am annoyed about Xbox One pricing though so will probably have to wait a long time before the price is acceptable to me.
