No, only if you agree that PS1 was a "fad". They have almost identical sales trends over a 6 year period.
I think you could argue that motion controls were/are a bit of a fad in the overall history of video games, however. All three manufacturers seem to be moving away from them to some degree, although all three still support it to some extent.

Lets see
Running total sales at ed of each year approx
2006 = 3.2m
2007 = 20m
2008 = 44m
2009 = 67m
2010 = 84m
2011 = 94m
2012 = 99m
2013 = 100m
yes fads last for 6 years lol.
Yup it was. And Nintendo better have another of those golden shots for their next console. They don't have a chance in the home console market otherwise.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
No. Selling 100 million is not a fad, at least not overall. Was the Playstation also a fad? Sure, there were a bunch of casuals that bought the system and didn't care much about it, but look at the software sales, which last I checked were more than PS360. So it wasn't just casuals that bought the system, but people that bought a bunch of games as well. Oh, and the idea that it died quicker than other systems doesn't hold water. Nintendo stopped supporting it after about 2010, so of course it died quicker than the PS360. Look at the PS3 and The Last of Us coming out this year and being a top title of the generation. Whereas the last great Wii game by Nintendo was 2011 with Skyward Sword. What that means is Nintendo should have supported the system better, and that's their fault, but it doesn't make the system a fad.
The PS3s numbers against the Wii at the end its production is all the proof we need really.
Great selling fad

yup wii sold 100 million, it sold great for about 4 years, but that's what fads are they sell great then disappear quickly, looks at console sales history, you don't go from selling 100 million consoles then the successor that selling worse then dreamcast, it just shows how big of a fad the wii really was, and that the market has moved on.
It was a fad without a doubt, though one a hade a lot of fun with for a while with family and friends. Most fun.social gaming experience i've ever hade, definitely worth the money.
