If Wii U sinks, Nintendo might leave the home console space. That damage outweighs the money they'll make from 3DS Smash. |
yes because all of Ninty's finances are tied to the success of Wii U...oh wait, how you doing 3DS?

3DS is a handheld. I'm talking about their presence in the home console market. That's something they cannot afford to throw away.

sure they can, its not like they are making money on Wii U right now anyway. 3DS is racking in all the cash, not so different from the Cube/GBA situation. and Id be willing to bet they made more money of DS than Wii. their portable division has and probably will always be much stronger than their home console division.

The portable market is shrinking.
And Wii U as well as any future consoles they make can still make plenty of cash out of the home console market. They need to remain in the home console race for the long term wellbeing of the company.

and yet the 3DS is doing MUCH better than Wii U. their not making plenty of cash now, how do you expect them to do so in the future? As i said you are putting too much stock in the Wii U. At least in the portable market they dont have any relevant direct competitors.

The home console market has more of a future than the handheld market.

maybe, but not for Nintendo. IMHO. There portable division will be more important to them than their home console one.

I still reckon the home console market will outlive the dedicated portable market by quite a bit, so in the long term Nintendo will not be able to survive on portables alone.
