Because Square is pre occupied with the three other main Final Fantasy games they've announced but not produced as well as running two MMOs.

Square-Enix totally slacking, we still haven't got Dragon Quest VII here yet either.
No DQ for Sony/ MS either. I think the DS got a few old FF tho.
Bravely Default is a spiritual successor to a Final Fantasy game. So technically they did release one, they just didn't title it "Final Fantasy", which I have a lot of respect for.
They are busy making games for the faster selling handheld console, PSV.

even though the DS and PSP made them a ton of money for some reason they are focusing on mobile but at least we can say all the bravest isn't on vita or 3DS
I never thought about it.
They should at least port some of the PS2 era games to it.
