Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can Titanfall be THE GAME That Pushes Xbox One Above PS4 in America?

selnor1983 said:
imo opinion it will happen before that. Titanfall and Halo 5 will just squish the PS4 in US. It will show Sony why Killzone just isnt even in the same street let alone Country. Halo 5 has no release date and no gameplay. And has 50k preorders already.

Want to make a bet on that? PS4 will have higher sales than the XBO in the US by the end of 2014.

Will it boost sales yes but Sony has more exclusives coming out this year and going forward. This is assuming titanfall is even good. I know it is early but Sony look's like there going to dominate this gen.

Not sure if Titanfall can top all these games, Drive club,Infamous, The order 1886, Planet side 2, Mlb the show 14,  Deep Down and what ever Ps+ games they give out and the f2p games coming.    Ps4 just has more to offer and at a better price.

PS4 doesn't have more exclusives though. Since you can name PC/console exclusive games so can I: Titanfall, Project Spark, Quantum Break, KS: Rivals, Sunset Overdrive, Black Tusk's game, Fable Legends, Halo. Xbox 2014 is looking strong

Sony's exclusives are more successful franchises  enmasse from first and second party and on a level of ratings. Sony in general has more critically acclaimed titles than Microsoft by a much larger margin than you think. Microsoft had more exclusives but most of those were third party and MS paid to keep most of the third parties to keep away from Sony at launch from 2005-2009 period. Bioshock itself took a year to come out which hurt its community on the Playstation. Same thing happened with Mass Effect  and Mass Effect 2 until EA bought Bioware and went multiplat. Depending on third parties exclusives is Microsofts saving grace. This generation more than the last there will be less third party exclusives between them. Lets see how Microsoft fares then.

Sony has four major developers under their first party that are on IGN's top 50 developers list. Microsoft had one which is completely responsible for the success of the Xbox and they are now exclusive to Activision for ten years.

Sony's learned from their mistakes with PS3 and MS learned from theirs on the 360. Its obvious that they're focusing on the quality exclusive games this go around with all the new IPs coming. While yes both have their respective critically acclaimed franchises/developers, I see MS taking more chances with the X1 while the only new IPs I see for PS4 is The Order and Driveclub

Microsoft is doing the EXACT same thing they did with the 360. They are Keeping specific key games from Sony but the problem is the exclusivity is drying up, especially since Sony is launching really close to them. Microsofts first party will need to expand and not just by making them, but by virtue of creativity of reception that they are accepted by the masses. Microsoft first party is truly the problem. They aren't good at it. This is why they pay for so many games. Sony's new IP's start expandinginto matured titles  around the second and third year mark of the consoles life. The only studio I know that has a new Shooter or whatever is Black Tusk. Thats the only studio I am expecting anything from. Everyone else will most likely be an outside company.

I think Microsoft knows this. Whic is why they spent the last 4 years making new First party studios. Theres studios we haent heard from yet. Microsoft now have alot of First party studios.

Here is the list of TEN Microsoft's first-party studios working on untitled projects:

  • Connected Experiences – Untitled Project – Design Large scale multiplayer title and help other first party studios
  • Kids and Lifestyle Entertainment – Next generation fitness project - Original IP
  • Platform Next Studios – Next generation title
  • Playful Learning – Next generation family project
  • Lionhead Studios – Fable series, Black & White series, Unannounced MMO-like New IP - (2 team studio - unannounced next generation title)
  • Lift London – Multiple AAA Cloud Based gaming projects (4+)
  • Rare Ltd. – Banjo-Kazooie series, Viva Piñata series, Perfect Dark series, Conker series, Killer Instinct series, Kameo: Elements of Power, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Jetpac series, Kinect Sports series- (3 team studio - Concurrent development of various titles)
  • Black Tusk Studios – Untitled Stealth Game - (an unannounced next generation title)
  • Microsoft Studios Victoria – Untitled Core Project
  • Microsoft Studios Osaka- Unannounced projects
There are others, but these studios of whic many  are new are confirmed working on titles.

None of those studios are known or are very impressive. Killer Instinct wasn't even made by Rare. Just shows you how far Microsofts faith in them goes. Stop listing unproven studios. With Rare its hit or miss because Microsoft has Rares IP but if the Rare of old was around with the Stamper Bros at the helm they would've had like ten new IP's out from the time Microsoft bought them. Microsoft owns their IP's not their soul.

I am only siding with Sony because they are the safer bet when it comes to game development and their creativity on an administrative level vastly outpaces Microsoft. As it stands right now that is just a fact. Microsoft is better at acquiring third party games and adding them to their exclusive ranks to patch up what they lack.

I could argue the exact same thing for most of Sonys 1st party studios, given their sales records the past gen, established or not. So what if Rare didn't make KI? Just means they are being put to use on other projects.

Only you would take MS's increased efforts and still make them out to be the crook. Stop padding your own ego.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Unproven yes.

Did Sony start with unproven?

Microsoft  are showing an effort. An effort to provide buyers of their console a reason to own it.

And MS showed faith in Double Helix. Good job to. Killer Instinct is a fantastic fighter. Rare are already workin on 3 titles. 2 being more old IP's. What more do you want from MS?

Last gen people asked fo more First Party studios. MS  listened and brought iin developers from around the industry. 343i  was new and put together by MS and they are a geat developer. Im sure MS will have many more great new studios.

Why so insecure?

Sony Japan/ TeamIco- Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Ape Escape, Siren, Knack and collaborative efforts on titles like Demon Souls and Patapon.

Naughty Dog (Split into two teams)- Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, The Last of Us.

Sony Santamonica- God of War, Warhawk and numerous collaborative development games including the Order 1886. Sony's go to team to save failing projects. I wont even list all of their collaborations. If Sony lets this company loose making their own games full time its all over.

Polyphony. Digital- Gran Turismo

Honorable mention:

Sucker Punch- Sly Cooper & InFamous (they are not exactly there yet with the other four but this gen it looks like they are going to get a lot of public attention)

Top 4 of the greatest gaming companies of all time (Sucker Punch isnt there yet but they are getting there). I am listing results not companies that have little to show for their efforts. Bungie was Microsofts golden goose. They got their IP and Bungie is gone, so no more exclusive

Lol so which is it.. should they invest in growing their own stable of studios or not? Seems petty to criticize them for "buying games" (which is something all 3 companies do anyway) but then when given a list of just some of their internal studios, dismissing them as unknown or not "very impressive". I mean, Naughty Dog started out with some shitty games and yet Sony trusted them with Crash Bandicoot. Guerrilla Games hadn't made any games with great praise and Sony stuck with them, I am sure you would consider them a big member of Sony's studio stable. Sony paid thatgamecompany, a studio with 0 games under their belt IIRC, for 3 exclusive games and they ended up being what? Flower, Journey, and Flow? Quantic Dream, Ready at Dawn, Ninja Theory, Sucker Punch, Team Ico, Evolution Studios, the list could go on regarding "unknown" or "not very impressive" studios Sony has either started or contracted with for exclusive games and I think in most of those cases you would agree it bolstered their lineup of developers and they released some quality games.

So congrats, they're doing what you have been wanting them to do. Maybe give them some credit or at worst take a wait and see approach instead of continuing to criticize.

My point is don't boast about what isn't top notch or hasn't even started yet. I would say Microsoft has invested more into development than even Sony since they got into the gaming industry. Problem is not many of the games turned out so great. Third party works for them and this has even been a point of discussion on Gametrailers.

It's pretty certain the Xbox will Once again rule the USA. It's selling basically the same amount of units being 100 dollars more expensive than the PS4. With a price cut, Titanfall, Quantum Break, Halo 5, Fable Legends, Call of Duty exclusives, Kinect, Xbox Live superiority, and the failing Wii U, the Xbox One has everything going for it. My question is, will the Xbox One start outselling the PS4 when 360 owners will want the superior version of Titanfal and upgrade to an Xbox One? I think Titanfall has the potential to sell a million+ Xbox One units in 2014. It will push Xbox One over PS4 all the way until Halo 5 in the US!!

Rule the US? No lol.  I predict a 50/50 split at best unless MS wisens up big time.

lol @ boasting.

you: lulz ms buying up gamez again they need to expand dat 1st party!

him: they are expanding, see look at this list

you: lol quit boasting!

It's ok, I didn't expect you to stop criticizing. It's like the 180 on all the Xbone "bad stuff", first you were griping because it was there and you wanted it gone, then when it was gone you started griping that it was there at all in the first place.

This. This is why Microsoft loses because coupled with Sonys worldwide demand they also have Japan.
