The Wii U's starting to get in it's stride, it's had week-on-week gains, so you'd be foolish to make lifetime predictions this early on.

I think 40m by 2016 is waaaay over shooting its sales.  I think you are more likely to see 20-25mill by 2016 by sony and 15-20 for MS. WiiU will probably hit around 10-15 by then.

The Wii U is easier to predict, because it has already been out for a full year and there is no overlap with any other machine. It's not going to take the life of anything else out there and it will die on its own. About 20m after four years sounds reasonable, followed by a much quicker death than the One.
