Both Mario games only managed to sell just over 1million this year, and it will continue to decline.

While Pokemon managed to catch up and will outsell it, in 2 months.

I think it's pretty much impossible for any mario game to overtake pokemon xy at this point.

Don't forget a few things.

1. Mario 3D Land (download version) is now being offered as part of a deal in Europe/Australia, which means that the number of people who own it will have increased without it showing up on VGChartz.

2. A number of games have strong eShop sales, most notably Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

3. Pokemon X/Y will significantly drop in sales as soon as the next mainline Pokemon title releases, which is likely to be October 2014.

4. While Pokemon X/Y will sell strongly in the next couple of weeks of data, so too will Mario 3D Land, and Mario Kart 7.

Simply put, while it's possible for Pokemon X/Y to come out ahead of all other already-released 3DS titles, it's certainly not guaranteed. It's probably going to be a very, very close race between four titles - Pokemon X/Y, Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D World, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf (and possibly also NSMB 2).

Ever? I don't think so. For some time? Totally possible, but Mario Kart 7 should be the best ever. If not, another game that hasn't been released.

Mario Kart 7 dropped by 54% this year and will drop only more, there is no way it could catch up, unless it get's mass bundled.

But Mario legs dude. Look at Mario Kart DS vs Diamond and Pearl.

Pokemon sold over 8 million in it's peak and dropped really hard. Mario Kart on the other hand sold for 6 straight years over 1 million, 5 years over 2.5 million.

No mario game will sell as much as it did, during the DS era

No it won't, not even close

Smash bros 3DS Plus Wii U, won't even outsell Pokemon XY

I'll never underestimate Mario. Pokémon will be the best selling game for some time, but I bet a Mario game is gonna surpass it (it probably hasn't even been released yet).

I'm not underestimating mario either, i'm just basing my argument on the sudden drop in legs for both mario games.

Well... This is the first Smash Bros on handheld plus the Smash Bros on wiiU and 3ds have different stages that are unique to each other which gives more incentive to buy both copies... Also the wiiU's install base isn't nearly as high so I think it will outsell Pokemon XY

Yes, I firmly believe Pokemon XY will be the top selling 3DS game, ever; nothing will surpass it. I'm willing to bet on that too :)

So what? It'll have the same effect on Pokemon XY sales as the Mario 3D Land bundle had on Mario 3D Land sales. What is different about the deal going on in Europe/Australia now is that Mario 3D Land is a freebie that comes when you buy a 3DS XL with one of a set of games. It's not bundled, it's a deal. So people will be getting Mario 3D Land as a result of buying another game, rather than getting it with their system.

1. There has never been a smash bros game on a handheld, so it has no audience

2. No smash bros game has outsold a pokemon game, so i don't know how you get this idea, that this will change that.
