Forums - Sales - Japan Sales week 51 (Dec 16 - Dec 22)

Congrats Wii-U, those are some mighty impressive figures. Genuinely never would've thought this was coming giving the anemic state it was in before. Makes up for the terrible year, at least. Let's hope next year has sales slightly more spread out over the course of 52 weeks rather than being concentrated in 4, though :P

Nevertheless, Nintendo certainly played a blinder on the holidays with this one. That advertising really, really, really worked, which is nice for them.

I'm a teensy bit surprised at 3DS. It's done extremely well, don't get me wrong, but if you'd told me last year that it would be down YoY despite having Pokemon & Monster Hunter I wouldn't have believed you. Puzzuls and Dragunz, however, has exceeded my expectations by quite some margin. It'll comfortably pass that 1m barrier which must be very pleasing for GungHo.

New releases - below expectations but nothing fatal for Drakengard. Shin Gundam Musou a little lower than I expected on PS3 and a little higher than I expected on Vita. Both of Namco's Omega Force-developed musou titles so far (the other being One Piece Pirate Warriors) seem to have garnered a respectable proportion of their sales on Vita, which much be pleasing for them.

Madoka Magicka, however, a disappointment. Even if we factor in a generous 20% digital, we're still looking at ~20k lower than the PSP version. Famitsu is suggesting that the game was completely sold out though, which is kind of odd.

Vita hardware pretty good, I guess. I'm resigned to the fact that it'll never be a holiday gift kind of console like Nintendo's are, so I suppose being up YoY by some is suggesting that at least it's a more desirable product now. Measuing against the first week of January from last year will be the real test though. It shot up from ~19k to ~31k, so I'm hoping for some similar % increases this year as people spend their holiday money. And maybe dragging up a bit of software with it.

That VitaTV drop is pretty funny btw :P

3DS is definitely beginning its decline though. Not beating last year's LTD with this year's line up is rather surprising, and there's hardly anything big for 2014 so far.

Edit: Monolith Title (Maybe 2014), Possible Pokemon Z or Ruby/Sapphire Remakes, Possible MH4G, Possible Pokemon spinoff. 2014 hasn't arrived yet and nintendo could be  hiding alot of games under there belt.

This was a pretty funny list to bring up when he's saying there's not a lot of big stuff "so far".

This year has kinda showed that a lot of the 3DS userbase is already there.  Presumably stuff like Monster Hunter 3G brought the Monster Hunter 4 crowd in.  So I'm not quite sure what Monster Hunter 4G would actually do for hardware.  Same with Pokemon Z.

Smash is the biggest wildcard "could be massive" for 2014.  We just don't know how much of the userbase is interested in a handheld version; and how many Smash fans would buy a console for it.

Japan giving life to the Wii U and Vita. :D

Anyone over 20 who wants the WiiU to fail hates their childhood.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Wii U 109.113

Wii U Ytd > PS3 Ytd

The king is back

A console that is a year old outsold a console that is 7 years old and is about to die off soon?? Wow, what a shocker the PS4 will triump over the Wii U like nobody's business..these Wii U sales don't even compare to the Wii sales and on a weekly basis fails to outsell the XB1 and PS4 despite both having supply issues and not having released in Japan...Wii U is not even close to being king right now.

This thread is about Japan sales only. PS4 won't do much in Japan. It will debut nicely, but sales will fall off a cliff until FF15 is released. Unless FF15 release before dec 31 2014, expect PS4 to be dead in water throughout next year. Just like the PS3 was before FF13 hit the system and Gran Turismo 5 released there.

So you want to make a bet?

You are always funny to read.

Really? That's a first!

Impressive WiiU numbers, seems to be going higher and higher every week. Hope it can maintain these sales.

To quote myself from a previous week:

I predict the following WiiU sales moving forward:

Week ending dec 8: 40 000 (real numbers ended up at 46000-48000)

Week ending dec 15: 65 000 (real numbers ended up at 70000-75000)

Week ending dec 22: 90 000 (real numbers ended up between 110 000-120 000)

Week ending dec 29: 60 000

Week ending jan 05: 80 000

Looking at how WiiU sales are trending, expect the system to sell more than 100 000 next week. (week ending dec 22)

Sales are decent this week as well but will most likely be down next week, and up the following week.

I remember pezus was basically saying you were crazy

I'm hoping that the bundles mean a higher sales floor for next year. Hopefully the bundles continue.

So, the 3DS is still on track for 15M+ this year? I even saw some saying 18M.

Funny, I saw some saying 15 mil was impossible. Who was that again...?
