Forums - Microsoft - Just Push Start: Ryse: Son of Rome is the best looking game so far this generation

Seriously, I doubt the majority of the complaints stem from the game being cinematic but rather from it having extremely shallow and repetitive gameplay.

I dont understand this remark for games like this. Heavy Rain, B2Souls, Ryse are all cinematic. Albeit in a different way, but the gameplay isnt suppose to be massively in depth. Its supposed to be an interactive game. Much like Quantic Dream do. I have friends who love Heavy Rain for example. Love it. Others who think its the biggest pile of boring no gameplay dog crap in the gaming world. These same people think that about Ryse. Some love its cinematic combat ( which is what it is ).

IMO Ryse is no more repetitive than alot of other rinse and repeat games that are praised out there. I actually think Assasins Creed is rather boring. It has a similar combat system ( albeit really poorly done after playing Ryse ) , but the storytelling is way worse. The best bit of Assasins Creed 4 is the ship battles. The running around, the stealth is all filler boring garbage.

Oh come on, you're not really putting QD games and Ryse in the same category.

Why? I dont understand the difference. If your expecting an out and out hack nslash game, thas not what I understand Ryse to be. IMO its clearly a cinematic experience. To show Brutal Rome. The slow motion combat executions are evident of that, as are the numerous cutscenes throughout the game.

Couldn't care less which games look better between SF and Ryse when both don't even qualify as "good" games to me >_>

And yes I played Ryse to about 20% at a friends, but then I just didn't want to go on. (Hurr durr!)

Should be disqualified for going below 30fps.
If this gets praise, expect a shit load of games to run below 30fps and 1080p just so they can claim this cheaply handed crown.

Heavy Rain is a game in which every single decision you make changes the games as a whole, it's not a game about combat but about the individual experience every player has with the game. Beyond is to a lesser degree the same, though I'd really just call this game an interactive movie, since all the decisions that affect the game are only made towards the end. Ryse is cinematic, yes but that doesn't put it in the same category as those games, having executions (GOW has those as well) and cutscenes (like literally every game nowadays) is not enough to do that.

Thats fine, it doesnt matter about choice. The end result is the same. Its got mechanics passable enough to tell a story in gorgeous detail. Thats what Ryse is. It tells a gruesome story of Rome. Of which slicing people up was a big part of the era. As an interactive roman tale it works for me. Its not by any streatch a hack n slash game.

GOW Executions are not even remotely in the same league. They arent the point of the combat. They arent the point of the game. Ryse combat revolves around being brutal, it revolves around guiding you through. Your being told an interactive movie. Of which I enjoyed. Now for a gamey game their are other titles out there I can buy and play.

I'm sure we already knew this lol too bad it's one of the worst next gen games :/

Says who?

I think its better than loads of next gen games. I gave my mate back his copy of AC4. Not my thing at all.

Say's nearly everyone selnor lol

Ryse didn't get universally ridiculed for no reason. And neither did Knack before you accuse me of taking sides, both games blow. Sure you may like it but you're in the minority.

What does any of this have to do with the games graphics?

it lacks the sharpness/clarity of kz and ac4,and only stayed in the ballpark of those 2 games because of the overwhelming linear world and sacrificing of framerate(at times,ALOT of frames)....

All while having much higher res textures, better lighting, much more detailed characters, more enemies onscreen and much better animations. Take those things all down to KZ or AC4 level and Ryse will do 1080p60fps no problem.

The dips in framerate only really happen with 100+ onscreen and loads of destruction. Its not frequent or that noticeable by any means. In fact it was only after DF released the info that anyone knew lol.

Am I?

Alot of people who actually own an Xbox One that I know trusted the reviews. Played it at mine and thought it was a good game. And have subsequently bought it. Not understanding the reviews at all. Its not everyones cup of tea, but then cinematic games never are for everyone. By the way, Knack is the best exclusive I played on PS4 yet. Better than Killzone. Its different. Not anohter shooter.

Interesting that the people saying its rubbish are non Xbox Owners. But alot of Xbox owners are saying to their surpise its actually good.

I've played the game and watched it being played during my lunch breaks at work, well it only lasted 2 days then nobody was bothered putting it back in the xbox. We only play forza now.

It's also interesting that people that are xbox owners are also saying it's average. Look at Jaywoods review for example.

Look at Jaywoods other review scores. 2 days? Easy then. Game takes 8 - 10 hours on Centurion on first playthrough. Even now Im fully upgraded, I can die a bit still. And yes Im good at the game. I have a 148 String combo highest.

The game is a real challenge played on Centurion and Legendary. 4 hits and your dead.

Anyway. I suppose its your opinion. I should take my own advice there and just leave the discussion.

Yeah but at work 2 days,  a lunchtime at work only goes for 30 mins. Meaning we only played it for an hour and gave up.

Anyways you're aloud to to like it, and im aloud to dislike it :) Btw I gave praise to this game before it released when I played the demo at digital nationz, it was fun when I first tired it but after playing it again I realized it was to repetitive and not deep enough for me. I thought Id like it seeing im a Dynasty Warriors fan.

Must be the secret sauce. LOL
