Forums - Sony - Breaking! PS4 Digital Management = xb1 family share!

I never said the policies were the same, the way yhe digital management functions however is the same. you simply get checked if youre authorized. it works almost the same but yes, if u want to be technical about it its not the exact same thing.

I am pretty sure you're trolling - it is not even close to the same thing.

PS4 allows you to access your own games on your own account on any console.

Family Share would have allowed any one of ten people to access your games on their own accounts on any console.  It also meant that up to two people could play one copy of a game at the same time (as long as one was the owner), essentially meaning that if you had a pairing arrangement you and a friend/family member could pay half price for every game for the entire generation - and another nine family and friends could play your game at any time you're not using it.

It was - simply put - revolutionary.  Unfortunately, much of the gaming media took no time to understand it, and railed against it.  Of those few who understood it, some ultimately decided that it wasn't worth the trade off of losing some of the resale contol you have over physical disks, which I view as unfortunate.

That is not what Family share was. With Family Share you could designate 10 people as family members and all of them could have access to your digital library. You always had access with your Xbox Live Id and they had access even if you weren't logged into their machine.

You forgot about the demo part, others could only play for an hour or so. The Microsoft employee who was very dissapointed when "always online" was cancelled spilled the beans and explained this.

They came back later and said that was wrong.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

That's a lot of bullshit if I ever read bullshit in my life, lmao. Of course they can say they were about to offer you the WORLD after they no longer will. Why can't they do it now, I wonder? huh?

Because to offer it now they'd have to bring back compulsory online check-ins, which a bunch of people bitched and whined about, preferring to have two next generation consoles with identical gaming capabilities, instead of allowing competition to breed innovation.

However, the PSN version requires you to give someone else your login/pw to PSN so they can user you digital library. Its also limited to 3 consoles, if I remember correctly.

The Xbone original plan was also more of a rental service that had many rumors where "friends and family" would only have limited play.

Ok, so the way i understand this is that it is the same drm that is in place now on the ps3 and 360, so im not sure what the op is going on about.

From what i can see, you can log on and play your games on any console, but you must be logged on. So you could be playing the game on two consoles at most, one with your main acount on another ps4, and another with a secondary avount on your primary ps4. The same way it currently works on current gen consoles...

Also, since the family share plan was never fully disclosed, it is pretty much impossible to say what it would have looked like in reality.

And the part in the op about positive playstation news going away quickly, really? The only reason positive playstation news would go away quickly is because too many people are busy posting negative news about x1 and wii u...

Can't I do that with the 360?

And XBONE too!

I really have no idea why this thread is still open. The DRM game "sharing" policies are identical on 360, XBONE, and PS4. Primary system can have any user play the game while a secondary system needs the owner to be online.

Not even remotely the same but i can see everybody is already posting that. Did you even pay attention to what the family plan was on Xbox One?

And good sony news gets stomped out?..... Well alrighty then.

Regardless it is cool that they are making progress with digital games :)

I remember a report from an "insider" on this that said that the XBone family share plan was actually just ~60 minute demos of the games in your library.

Otherwise lots of people would download games and give them out to 10 people and drastically reduce potential sales.

Yeah, dang microsoft and nintendo keep hogging all the attention with the countless doom threads that pop every minute or so...

That's not true. A MS exec confirmed it was full games shared with 10 people in a "Family" list.
