Forums - Sales - Did Sony mess up PS4 distribution? (not enough allocated to US)

Sony should have put more PS4 in the US.  Right now, it is very hard to find a PS4, but Xbox1 is readily available in most places (almost every Best Buy has them in stock).  PS4 is going to win everywhere outside the US (with exception of UK) no matter what happens.  PS4 could have took it to Xbox1 by allocating much more PS4s to the US (and having less available in other countries).

Anectodally, I know 5 people with a Xbox1, and 3 of them got a Xbox1 because they couldn't find a PS4.  I would assume a good portion of Xbox1 owners got a Xbox1 because they couldn't find a PS4.....

It's the same in Europe, it will take time for supply meet demand.

interesting article to read:

The Sony PlayStation 4 and Xbox One availability have been hot topics for shoppers this holiday season, as many individuals have been trying to get their hands on the consoles for themselves or as gifts for others. The pre-orders for both sold out online quickly, with retail store stock also becoming scarce. However, it appears at least one of the consoles may be available online for a limited time, as the other continues to sell at higher prices than retail.

According to a Venture Beat report on Dec. 17, the demand for the Sony PS4 is 3.3 times as much as current demand for the Xbox One by Microsoft. The results come from online-shopping portal BuyVia where more than 150,000 customers used the site to search for the PS4 between Nov. 25 and Dec. 14. As noted, that's 3.3 times greater than Xbox One searches which only numbered about 45,000 during the same time period. BuyVia cofounder Norman Fong suggests, "This may be due to the lack of availability of the PS4, as Xboxes were more generally more available for purchase."

Yea, Sony should have done what Nintendo did and not show anything anyone cares about at the last e3 so they wouldn't have stock shortages around the world... Instead they showed stuff that people cared about and look what happened...

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Seems like Sony shipped ~1.5m units to US right now... if they can send more 500k units this year it will give a shipment of 2 million consoles in US in 2013.

How can we say it is not enough allocated to US?

The demand is just crazy.

Yes and no. there selling everything anyways so it doesnt really matter

Yes, they did. Looks like they allocated too much to LATAM (I live in Colombia) and the price just makes it a luxury item (650 U$) for too many people, so they are easily found here, but looks like in USA a lot of people is struggling to get one

Sony didnt mess up anything, there is just such a huge demand for the PS4 that it is hard to keep up with. Same thing with every other electronic device that is really popular.
