Forums - PC - I don't know what to think of PC gaming anymore ... [PC gaming ruined]

Today is the day that I'm really doubting a big part of the gaming industry. Gaming in general isn't wat it used to be anymore regarding the approach of releases. Releasing a broken game that you've bought because of false advertisement is something that happens more often and for me that influenced the way I'm thinking about PC gaming now.

Two of my most played franchises on PC have received both an update/patch today in the hope to even things out. You can probably guess the titles I'm referring too and if you don't know what I'm talking about: I'm talking about patch 8 for Rome 2 Total War and Dec 17 update for Battlefield 4. These two games actually nearly ruined PC gaming for me.

BF3 had rough edges and didn't had the best release and neither did Shogun 2 when both released 2 years ago. However you could really see the progress of further development and both games were still playable. Vanilla BF3 was for me perfectly playable from the start actually but it still needed some optimization regarding performance and some bug fixes. Shogun 2 had more problems online but the campaign was playable and the only problem was performance optimizing and perhaps it lacked a bit of content. Both games I had from launch and they became my favorite pc games to play (150-200h each). Premium for BF3 was good but Rise and Fall of the Samurai were amazing and the complete set of Shogun 2 is one of my favorite strategy games of all time.

When getting Rome 2 and BF4 I new that the release wouldn't be so smooth but I compensated that by not getting both games on release and waiting for 2-3 weeks to get also a cheaper gamekey. For both games I payed 35 euros and both games received a few patches. I never new what I have gotten myself into.

Battlefield: The problems BF3 had during release returned and this was just a major joke for me. The game had invisble walls, crashes, freezes, sudden lag, Server errors (75% of the time), glitches. All this never happened in such a scale as BF3. The thing is that the game really got better for me after during the last 2 weeks when they patched (for China Rising Premium members). The only thing was that the crosshair dissapears sometimes but that's no problem for me (I played KZ2 and 3 on extreme without crosshair so I can survive that). Today the game is totally ruined. First I thought it had something to do with China Rising that released today but the game just is unplayable without tremendous input lag, server lag and all kinds of other lag that you can think of. And to read that they actually removed some physics in the game and didn't release certain new physics and graphics is just a joke.  I was hoping for dynamic wheather in todays DLC. Nope. They should have released all the maps from BF4 just for BF3. It would have been so much better. (I think the problem is the fact that there are two teams, one making Frostbite 3 engine and the others making BF4, bad decision in the end)

Total War: My favorite PC franchise. Rome 2 is a good game. At least after the time they inserted the possibility to mod the game. (If you can't fix it, leave it to the community) and gameplay wise I have a couple of mods installed so I didn't mind some of the weird decisions in gameplay in the end. But I actually hoped that they would continue from Shogun 2 that reached very high levels and just improve that engine and alter it where needed. This game had a lot of bugs, graphical problems and crashes. Mainly crashes during campaign was very annoying. But a lot was sorted out with patch 7 and I restarted the campaign with another faction. Patch 8 looked promising as well as the new campaign (that I'm not going to get) however now the game doesn't want to start anymore. I'm tired of searching for bugs and solving problems myself and just want to play without all the bullshit around. Consoles can't offer this experience and I really like strategy games.

These 2 games really ruined a lot for the experiences and I give them both a new chance in the upcoming days/weeks however I'm definitely not getting the next Battlefield game and Medieval 3 must be very good for me to give it a chance.

When my PS4 arrives at least I'll get Killzone. A game without groundbreaking bugs, problems or whatever. I have most of the first party sony games of last gen and current gen handheld and every one of them was at least good. But I'm afraid for Star Wars Battlefront 3 and the next lord of the rings game (fan of both), both EA and the first one made by DICE.

Man I'm so sad about the Rome 2 bugs! Haven't gotten the game yet, and won't do it until they've sorted that shit out! Anyways, if you wanna try another grand strategy game, try out Civ or Europa Universalis. These 3 strategy games are what I usually play the most and favor.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Sucks. I love PC gaming. My PS4 is quite nice. I really don't like KZSF.

Stick to indie games.. triple A is doomed!

Now that my pc is in my living room attached to a wireless 360 controller pc gaming has become second only to Wii U in my life!

I stopped gaming on PC (except for PC singleplayer exclusives) because of bugs and cheaters. PS4 is cool though. I am enjoying pretty much everything I have played on it.  Pre BF3 was one of the best series ever.  I hated 3 and refuse to buy 4.

I am suprised you picked up Rome 2 so soon after release. The reporting of bugs and game breaking problems was huge, and has led me to the decision to not buy at all,

As for the BF3 problems you reported to have... i never experienced any of them. Dont have BF4 yet, as i need a system upgrade first, but i havent heard much in the way of problems from people i know and podcasts i listen to

Those two are infamous for their bugs. How about a refreshingly bug-less game on PC? ;o
Try Dota 2!

Currently I have 70+ games in my steam library and a dozen on Origin. I loved Valve games (Portal 1+2 and L4D2) because they have at least working games with a lot of support. Unfortunately they don't have new games that often. Company of Heroes 1 is also one of my favorite games and works perfectly. But I just can't understand why some PC exclusive games come with so much problems. I really liked the idea of Red Orchestra (realistic WW2) however the second game is also full with problems.

I'm going to try DOTA 2, More than half a million playing everyday but it didn't look appealing for me. However things that look appealing might turn out a complete disaster like Rome 2 and BF4.

At least I'm having fun with Third Age Total War. Best mod ever on one of the best strategy games.
