Forums - Gaming - I don't think PS4 demand is as high as we are lead to believe.

Wii had no substitute. If you wanted a Wii experience your only choice is getting Wii. PS4 has a substitute that's called an Xbone, and comes with a camera too. Even if the OP was right, it wouldn't have proved anything.

You only read my first sentence, huh?

lmao. A dramatic exist. Just when I thought you couldn't sink more....

Whatever's post about the average selling price on Ebay for PS4 ($180 over base price) kinda discredits the data OP is using.

Not only that but whether the data is right or not...OP's argument is still flawed.

*High five*

No

Why would you judge demand based on how much people are willing to pay for a PS4 rather than the waitlist numbers.

Of course it's not as high as portrayed here. Most people here are Playstation enthusiasts.

Demand for both consoles is high and supplies are not meeting it. Console launch 101. But the lengths some go on here regarding demand, lol. Isn't there a thread about a waiting list at almost 2 million for PS4 versus like half a million for Xbone? lol.

I don't understand why anyone would sell on Ebay. Not only is it risky as Ebay bends over backwards for buyers, but after Ebay/Paypal fees and shipping, you barely break even on your sale. One of my friends sold one for $560 including shipping. That's $56 gone to Ebay and another $20 for Paypal. After shipping all the way across the country, he made $450. He made less than $20 on the sale. Just slap it on Craigslist for $500. People will pay and you still make a decent profit.

We'll never really know what the demand for either console is right now, simply because there aren't enough consoles to go around. If you wanna buy bundles, you can buy either console online right now and have been able to for awhile. But most don't wanna buy bundles, and most don't shop online. And at retail it's a crap shoot to find either console. As I said in another thread, someone posted a link to search local Walmart stores and something like 10 of the 14 local stores were in stock but I bet if I called, maybe a couple would actually have one. And I have seen exactly 0 Xbox Ones since a couple days after launch. But if I called around enough? Would be just like the PS4, would probably eventually find one.

Instead of a constant dick measuring contest, lets just be happy that both consoles are having great launches and the industry isn't dying like many people believe/believed it will/would. We could always have more Wii U situations. I am glad the consoles are selling well.

In aus i know people who have sold the PS4 for $800-950 (retail is like $550)

Mind you we didn't get much stock so it is understandable here

This is off topic, but you just convinced me to pull my item from ebay. I didn't realize there was a fee for both ebay AND paypal plus I'd have to pay for shipping. I should do the math first :/

The PS4 instantly sells out whenever any retailer gets stock in. Obviously there's not a ton of units available so that skews things a bit, but the demand is obviously high. Likewise with the Xbox One. I feel like there's no logical way to debate this?

It's all about the game.

So luckily for us, ebay has the "Price trending at" feature that tracks prices for items over a 2 week period.

PS4: $585.78
XB1: $620.34

Clearly demand for the PS4 is higher than the XB1.

First of all, I never claimed X1 demand was higher.

Does that mean people are paying $620 for PS4, or is that the price people are trying to sell them for?

Because I'm seeing plenty of PS4's selling for under $450 - $500.

It means that people are paying, on average $585 for a PS4 and, on average, $620 for a XBone. PS4 is selling $185 more on a $400 MSRP. That's a 46% markup. XBone is selling $120 more on a $500 MSRP. That's 24% markup.

I know you said you acknowledged that PS4 demand is higher than XBone's, but also, people willing to pay almost 50% more than retail means the demand is "as high as we're lead to believe", in spite of your OP.
