Forums - Gaming - I don't think PS4 demand is as high as we are lead to believe.

Gamestop said they had 2.3mil preorders to fulfill. If that's not super high demand I don't what is. The end.

If Gamestop has that kind of demand, you would think ebay and Craigslist sellers would be offloading their consoles at a higher profit.

Once again, just silencing people that think demand is so great that ebay and Craigslist sellers are making large profits.

Do you really think 2.3 million people are willing to pay 500- 600 USD for a PS4? One of the main reasons why it's selling so well is because of its price.

Only the really desperate hardcore people will go and pay a premium on a gaming console.

This says nothing about the demand though. You're not really "silencing" anybody with this...

With regards to the actual demand of the console...thats anybody's guess really. The sales will tell the full story in time. So while i diagree with the logic you using here, that doesnt necessarily mean that you are not right.

And Mr Puggsly ignored both you and me. Its a shame. Ive made over 300 in profit on 2 ps4s. I sold them exceptionally fast too because i get them at 15% less than everyone else so i can undercut the lowest price

This is a hot thread and I responded to many, sorry if I miss some responses.

I just responded to whatever.

You had a success story, but many people are struggling to have your story.

So maybe the Xbox One's demand isn't as high as we are lead to believe.  Oh, well...

I already know X1 demand isn't high, I've seen plenty of discussions about how they aren't selling out.

Oh, well... not related.

You don't believe that. I don't believe that. Most people on VGchartz don't believe that.

so far I gather the following about the original poster:

- does not understand the term "trending price" [hint: it means average recent sale price of the product...should have been obvious...oh well, some people require explanations for obvious things...]

- cherry picks and thinks because he says he isn't cherry picking that it isn't cherry picking

- and generally has no point to make [should be banned for this IMO]

You had a success story, but many people are struggling to have your story.

And thats not at all because A. Preorders have become more popular which allows those dedicated buyers easily secure a machine at launch (allowing 1 mil consoles to be sold in a day) and B. sony Being able to supply more consoles in a shorter amount of time to supply those people who really want one to secure one more easily. Even with those two factors people are still will to spend 200+ more dollars than what its worth. Ontop of that try and find one in the wild. They sell out in minutes. The demand is obviously there. Now, you can close your eyes and desperatly try to not believe it. But that doesnt change facts

I'd hope we're just at a time when people are smarter than to be prepared to pay $1000 for a console that will be readily available in every single game shop in a few weeks.

The only place you can get them on the high street in the UK right now seems to be CEX where they're charging £550ish (vs the £350 retail).

So luckily for us, ebay has the "Price trending at" feature that tracks prices for items over a 2 week period.

PS4: $585.78
XB1: $620.34

Clearly demand for the PS4 is higher than the XB1.

First of all, I never claimed X1 demand was higher.

Does that mean people are paying $620 for PS4, or is that the price people are trying to sell them for?

Because I'm seeing plenty of PS4's selling for under $450 - $500.

It means that, on average, over the last 2 weeks, that's the price that an item has sold for.  Supply has increased today because of the large amount that went on sale yesterday, so it's logical that prices have dropped today.  If no more supply comes this week, the price will go back up again.

In addition, looking at your links, the shipping on those are very high ($40-$60), so you need to add that to the price to the get the "demand" price.

PS4 demand after 1 month has gone down, but still $50-$100 above the original price is not to bad.

Also that trending price $180 above for PS4 vs $120 for XB1.
