Forums - Gaming - I don't think PS4 demand is as high as we are lead to believe.

Let's compare shall we:

Wii U launch sales to Dec 2012 with 2 months notice on price and availability : 3.08 million
PS4 pre-orders taken for 11 months with price and availability to purchase as of December 2013: 2.1 million

A demand is there but clearly it falls short of the hype and momentum coming out of E3 2013. Also if there are shortage issues now, shouldn't Sony have had ample time to stop that from actually happening?

Where in the world did you get that 3.08m from? WiiU had sold 810k at the start of December. They ended the year with 2.2 million.

Thanks for the correction. I read the IGN post wrong. They were accounting for all sales until January 2013. My bad.http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/30/nintendo-financials-reveal-wii-u-sales

That said, the demand for the PS4 is still not as high as Sony believes it is.

PS4 price was announced on E3, some 5 months before launch. And where do exactly the 2.1 million come from?

You have me confused here. What exactly are you comparing? Also, as I said, price for the PS4 was announced 5 months prior to launch, not 11.

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.

I can only tell you from my personal experience, yesterday morning. At Target, trying to buy a PS4 for my brother in Korea. 25 people in line for PS4. 8 people in line for Xbone.

Whilst I agree demand is quite exaggerated, I still think demand is very very high, especially in Europe.

Why do you continue this mantra when youve been conbecause olly proven wrong with selling price and on top of that shipping isnt taken out of the cost... its added on. As in the buyer has to pay more than what thE auction closes at. If i didnt know any better Id call it trolling

Even with shipping included I often don't see people paying $500. Some sellers have been doing free shipping as well.

I have been proven wrong? I think many people in this thread don't even get my point.

You've been shown the average over the last two weeks and how high it is over the standard selling price but all you keep doing is just sleuthing around for yourself and saying you don't see anyone making those prices.  Don't you think that the average over all PS4 sales on Ebay is a more meaningful analysis than "I looked at 20 and this is what I saw"?

Not valid, because that would make too much sense.. Anedoctal is better than statistics that is superior than full data because of reasons.

Alright. Doesnt mean that there isnt a high demand.

If you admit your data doesnt mean anything... what are we debating here?

My data points out demand isn't as big as some believe. Hence, some people will be surprised to hear sellers are struggling to make a profit on the mega popular PS4.

I feel you're turning this into a black and white argument, either demand exist or it doesn't. I'm saying demand does exist, its just not a strong as some believe.

Ebay sales doesn't mean anything. Maybe it is just saying that most people just want a brand new one!Or most people who bought a PS4 bought it to really play games and not to resell it again?

In my country I know a few branch office managers of retailers and they all mentioned that they have had never such a demand on a console. They never sold so many in pre-orders and they get new request/orders everyday. They think that for people who didn't do a pre-order before August, the console will be available in March 2014. Because all shipments up to February are only for pre-orders! (this can mean that the demand is really high or Sony is just shipping very low quantities)

I just don't get it people are still paying up to $140 over the retail price, but demand isn't high cos that's only a small profit margin for the scalper after all there fees.

My heart bleeds for them.

Im sorry but if people are consistently paying over retail price for an item then demand is high, and if there paying $100+ over retail demand is VERY high.

Puggs, this is low-level amateur work. You have been here for four years. Have you no shame?

You can do better. VGChartz deserves better. It's time to step your game up, seriously.

It's like you said. PS4 winning isn't good for vgchartz

Demand is high.

He created this thread to present the PS4 in a bad light. Some presented very valid counter points or some did not take him seriously (such as myself). This is a fail thread. Nothing more.

Thousands of views, over a hundred responses. I created great discussion!

No regrets! We had a lot of fun guys, that's what its all about.

Anyone can make a great "discussion" by talking about the first thing that pops to their mind. It's nothing special really. This thread, among recent others from you, is one of those types of threads.

It's obvious you're not interested in genuine discussion as you ignore the most valid objections...but that's not so bad. But of you're going to make these types of threads, I would expect a bit more creativity & thought, especially from someone who has been here for so long. Doing so would make the thread more interesting, even whilst your true intentions were obvious. Is this too much too ask?
