Forums - Sales - Name all the markets in the industry

I think you can add open world fans, wich seems to exist, even though the games fall across different genres. Shooter fans can be divided under 1st person shooter fans and 3rd person shooter fans.

Anywys this is not all the markets, not is it a proper way to define a market. This is just sectioning customers by game genre preferance. But i guess its what you were going for. :)

Okay, let's say I launch a game that's open-world, what size of audience am I looking at. That's the kind of answer we get from this.

But I admit that to get a big-picture view on what markets exist on a console, and then what size that equates to is much less obvious because there is a lot of cross-cutting.

So you're looking to position your "product" in the market (pretending). You need to think of your final costumer in different levels. Their age, the place they live in, how much money they got, their hobbies, their personality traits, buying behaviour, etc.

To simplify this, the better way of saying it is you have to ponder (and im going to try and translate here to english and i might mess up some words) demographic criteria, geographical criteria, social and economic criteria, psycological criteria and behaviour criteria.

Its alot more work to do this correctly than it looks. :D

You are basically using just bahaviour criteria in a limited form, but thats ok for this purpose. To say what the size of the audience is, would require alot more info from the market and a proper segmentation. Its not something that can be easily answered.

But if i had to risk an answer, i would say open world fans are gamers that enjoy either first person or third person games across the shooting and action/adventure genres, who have an interest in buying more games of the type, who have acess to and the financial disposition to do so and i suppose fit in the 14-50 year old range.

I cant tell you how many those are though. We would have to gather data on the market to make an estimate. Like how much on average each game of the genre sells, what their metacritic is, etc.

open world/sandbox fans?
GTA and Minecraft would go there. Though I have no idea what market share that would be.
