Wow, two things leanred from this post:

1.) You guys are all quite passionate about your chosen system.

2.) There are alot of younger people here.

TO answer the oft repeated question regarding what do I mean by calling it FF7 great, i mean will do it as well in lifetime sales or in the same ballpark, as opposed to some of the other games. I must admit, I do not have data for exactly how well FF7 sold, but I do recall when I was in college alot of my friends went out and bought it. It was literally a system seller for the PS.

Re: HP on the Wii

 - While prev sequels may have been on a downward spiral, this next release is the conclusion to the series and I feel that will add more momentum

 - The game is being released around the same time as the movie and will likely piggy back on it's marketing; that means the marketing budget can do things like plugins onto movie and book ads and whatnot that most games cannot do. Marketing will be heavy is my point.

 - The HP franchise is extremely popular with younger crowds; have you seen what these kids do? And what bookstores and even SUPERMARKETS do when a new book is released? Midnight parties at Borders/B&N? Its ridiculous, but its also quite profitable.

 - While a Sixaxis version for the PS3 is also being released, the lower install base and higher costs (both for the system and having to buy the SIxaxis controller) will not make it as popular. I think the PS3 is doing better in older market segments; I know convincing my parents to buy a $250 system would have been much easier than convincing them to buy a $600 system with an additional accessory.

 - Playing HP with a wand and being able to make gestures for the spells is actually, imo, quite different than playing with a classic style controller. I wish theyw ould release games that I play where I could cast spells in such a fashion; WoW and NwN2 would be infintely more entertaining if I could cast spells with a slight gesture (PC games Ima ware). Anyways I think you guys might be surprised by how well it will do on the Wii. The release is soon enough, in June I believe. I will update the thread once we have some sales figures. Id say its biggest limitation is the low install base of the Wii atm combined with the inability of Nintendo to meet demand. Shoudl be an interesting title to watch thru the holiday season.

PS: I have been using this nickname since long before JK Rowling ever wrote or even conceived, her first HP novel. Those of you who recall the earlier internet eras and were familiar with the old AOL  would recall the original Neverwinter Nights (the pay per hour version) of the late 80s. Basically where I got my nick; its ok though, once you get off the beaten path of major mega sites most of the net tends to go down quite abit age wise, so sentiments such as those expressed above are to be expected.

Will it be Final Fantasy VII great? Depends on your opinion of FFVII. If you are like me, being Final Fantasy VII great in anything other than sales is bad thing. FFVII is the most overrated game in the series, probably the most overrated RPG ever.

dracop, is that what you mean by final fantasy 7 great? first off, ff7 was an epic, but imo wasnt the best FF. Harry Potter games are horrible..there is no way its gonna be as good as lets say Breath of Fire, a 2nd tier RPG, let alone any FF game... brudda that was just a horrible anology.."Will Harry Potter be FF7 great"..
