Forums - Gaming - Please post your 10 point Wii U Emergency Plan

We all know the Wii U is in serious trouble and it's trending behind Gamecube, which isn't good at all.  Mario 3D World was a great game, but not a system seller.  Some say "wait until 2014" for games like Smash and Mario Kart, but those are in no way guaranteed to thrive.  Others say the Wii U is dead.  I say it's not, but it's going to take some drastic actions.  Here's my plan.  Please post yours.

1. Release a basic model without gamepad and with a pro controller for $200 or possibly $150 without a game.

2. $250 bundle upon the arrival of Mario Kart 8, and that's day one of its release.

3.  3D World bundle with price cut for $250.  Ideally, you want to wait to bundle this AAA title.  Okay, it's been a month.  Wait over.

4. Start adding bonuses to the bundles, such as Super Mario Bros. 1-3 for free on the virtual console or other eshop titles.

5.  Rapidly increase the speed of the virtual console releases.  10 games per week minimum, and GOOD games only.

6.  Finish off the move towards accounts by tying games to the account.  Crossplay and crossbuy for a small fee must be included.

7.  Hurry up and release Wii Sports Club games and package as a retail game.

8. Push releases for 2014.  These titles are mandatory: quarter one: DKC, quarter two: Mario Kart 8, quarter three: Smash Bros., quarter four: Zelda U

9. Bring back forgotten IPs for 2015, primarily Star Fox and Metroid.  Again, 2015 at the latest.  And get Animal Crossing out 2015 at latest.

10.  Advertise non-stop.  They have started advertising for a change.  We need to see more.  Point out in EVERY ad that the Wii U is a brand new system with upgraded graphics and HD capability.

the wii-u is pumping out 200k ish units a week now heading towards Christmas, means there should be around 1m more systems in homes by the start of next year when the big guns like MK8 and Smash bros arrive. I think the Wii-u will do just fine once it starts to get those games out there.

My 10 point Wii-U plan?
1. Trust Nintendo to do what they've been doing for 25 years
2. Play Games
3. Have fun

Covers it all really. I didn't even need 10 or to pretend to know how business works!

Just to point out here you want 40 great old games a month? rather than space out any games or let people have time to pick them up and enjoy them? just push 40 a month for the next what 2-3 years?

Okie then future Iwata would you please list the first years 480 GOOD old Nintendo games for the first year so we can get your plan into action.

Keep in mind that you'll have to be forming the rest of your 1440 long list of GOOD games for it by our next meeting or you go in the sharks!

No, things can slow down once the holidays are over and hopefully sales pickup.  That said, you think I'm being unreasonable but they are releasing a game a week on average.  That's 52 games a year, and many of them are games like Clu Clu Land.  Do I think they can release 10 games a week?  No, because it appears that they have one guy working on it.  But I hope you acknowledge that the current rate and quality of releases is unacceptable.  How many months have they said Mario Bros. 3 would be out?  Since the summer, and it's still not out.

10 point plan:

1. Don't Panic. The new consoles had great launches, but are likely to slow down after the initial rush as their games droughts begin. No backwards compatibility will be a burden for them in the short term.

2. advertise more, the product is good but without more advertising...

3. Keep a good release schedule, attract indies, do a few more bayonetta like deals

4-10. Repeat the above steps.

Way under 200k a week right now, NPD has shown that.

Also, why should Nintendo fans just blindly have faith when they've seen how badly Nintendo have stuffed up over the last couple of years. You act like they're infallible.

Enjoy the console and its games, let Nintendo worry about selling more of them.

Here's my 10 point plan.

1. Release a game.
2. Release a game.
3. Release a game.
4. Release a game.
5. Release a game.
6. Release a game.
7. Release a game.
8. Release a game.
9. Release a game.
10. Release a game.

Games sell hardware. When gamers perceive the value of owning a Wii U to be greater than the cost of buying it, they'll buy it. And the value in the Wii U is found in its library. As many have pointed out, the Wii U serves well as a partner to one of the other two systems, since you'll get games on the Wii U that you just can't find anything similar anywhere else, while the other two systems are pretty much identical twins this time around in terms of games.

And while a price cut is an option if all they care about is total number of systems available, the fact that they're more interested in money than status means that price cuts, right now, aren't going to happen.

The only other thing that is worth doing is extensive advertising... but most of this can be achieved as part of releasing games, as "game release" usually comes with "game release advertising".
