Forums - Nintendo - Platinum Games Creative Director is Fed Up With Bayonetta 2 port begging

Oh soundwave, you had so much potential to learn more about the market but at this point if rol can't get to yuo out then I guess no one can.

Casual gaming isn't blue ocean anymore. It's the very definition of a red ocean market. That's the problem. It's an overserved market with a million options today, many of which are free or $1 a pop.

That's a dead end for Nintendo.

The problem with this logic is that the 3DS isn't FLOPPING so you can not make a claim that mobile devices are killing gaming altogether otherwise GTA V wouldn't sell the way it is doing now.

Bridge games (casual friendly): NSMBU, Mario 3D World (2)

Casual games: Nintendo Land, Game & Wario, Sing Party, Wii Sports Club, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Mario & Sonic Olympics (7)

Core games: Ninja Gaiden 3 (port), Wonderful 101, Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3 (4, only 2 of which are new games)

Kids-centric games: LEGO City (1)

The games you listed have very low quality. You see soundwave the problem with your thinking that casuals will eat up anything is just plain crappy but it is in fact the opposite. The games that appeal to us you see is mostly trash and we can not except that.

The WII U is just as hardcore as the gamecube just so you know because it's essentially designed to be catered towards the louder nintendo fanbase.

people still believe they could have just made a Wii 2? Nope you cant pull the same thing twice, sure it would have sold better but it would not have come anywhere near the Wii. pretty sure people dont care that much about motion gaming anymore

I agree with you it probably would slightly better then the wiiu, but wiiu name is still better then xbone.

only problem is 360 and p3 now have motion controls and every 3rd party game, i don't see how this would work anymore. like sounwave said above me, i don't think there is anything they can do.

You see what sony and microsoft are offering us is mostly trash as evidence by kinect and move sales. If their software isn't up to par then their hardware doesn't matter at all.

Have you ever heard the term "software sells hardware" ?

Then I rest my case.

LOL kinect sold over 30 million, yes trash sells.

Nintendo Land is probably the best mini-game compilation Nintendo's ever made. Wii Fit U is a lot of fun from what I've gathered. Wii Party U looks like a blast too. There's Just Dance too which I'm told is quite a bit better using a game pad as a second screen.

These are in no way lower quality than their Wii counterparts.

3DS did try to chase the casual market with Nintendogs as its main launch title and it failed massively. Brian Training was also a full on flop for the system.

It's having some success once Nintendo repositioned it as more of a GBA-PSP hybrid, by getting Monster Hunter in Japan and throwing all their core franchises at it. Still the DS would crush 30 million shipments a year with ease ... the 3DS is more winded than a fat kid trying to climb stairs just to get to 15 million in its best year (which is likely this year).

Casuals ain't coming back. Especially women. Once they got a taste of the iPhone ... it was over. Nintendo had a fun little window into that market for a few years, but Apple outclasses them with sexier, fashion chic hardware that suits their social life and keeps them connected to Facebook, Twitter, etc. all the time and have "fun" games that can be had for free or $1 a pop like Candy Crush. $30 Nintendogs? On a piece of hardware that looks like something a girl's little brother would play on? Ha. Good luck.

Sony/MS end up looking stupid when they try to market against Apple, Nintendo never had a prayer.

what do you think nintendo can do to be more relevant, please don't tell me more powerful hardware.

Wait what ?! You obviously didn't understand what I had meant. The WII was obviously not some fad as people though out to be. I agree that more powerful hardware is meaningless. For nintendo to be relevant again they need to go blue ocean again otherwise their not gonna have much chance.

what do you think the gamepad is?

It's a throwback to the dreamcast/gamecube obviously. We all know how those systems did, right ?

those systems had a gamepad?

No but their concepts were pretty similar. The VMU could be used to play shitty games on the go and the GBA and the gamecube had dumb connectivity features much like the WII U.

Yet that trash didn't get very far now did it ?

Cell phones did the same thing to the camera industry ... when I'd go to a party or club circa 2005, if you wanted to take a photo ... most people carried around those slim pocket cameras.

But today that class of camera has been virtually wiped out by cell phone cameras.

But higher end DSLR cameras for extremely high photo quality and more professional like results is actually an industry that's remained strong and gotten stronger.

I think it kind of mimics what's happening with the game business.

Casual/cartoony/kids-centric games are having a very rough go of it on consoles. People associate that type of gaming now with their tablet/phone.

And they've designated consoles for the "hardcore"/high end experiences.

There isn't a lot of space in between anymore, and Nintendo was counting on there to be.

Oh but they clearly are because it isn't moving the WII U as evidenced. What you are hearing is some non sense from hardcore gamers and the like.

That's because nintendo wasn't in the mood give them a higher budget to make the experience unique.

That's because the 3DS faultered severly just like the PS3 did. Over priced handheld at $250 on launch, getting worthless games titles at the beginning, and moronically pushing for something as worthless as 3D will just do damage to your handheld brand.

Yet the 3DS isn't flopping as badly as the vita. Once again look at the above issues I have proposed.

Sony knows that they aren't competing with apple directly but I'm not too sure about microsoft.

A lot of people say the Wii U has the best version of Just Dance:

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/10/11/just-dance-2014-wii-u-review

The gamepad is perfect for the karoake style play list and having someone "head up" the party.

I had tons of casual gaming friends that bought the Wii. I've had some over to play Wii U and guess what ... Nintendo Land and Wii Sports Club still kill it. I actually got a noise complaint from a neighbor once because we were too loud.

That said even with that demo, none of them are interested in actually spending $300 of their own money. Times change.

The Macarena was a lot of fun in its day too, I mean hell it's probably still fun today when it gets played at a party but people aren't going for that anymore.

It's actually hardcore gamers that don't understand casuals. Casuals want the next exciting fad, it's not about upgrading to play the same ol' thing like core gamers do. The assumption that Wii casuals would even want another console just because hardcore gamers always want the next iteration was a flawed premise right from the start.

The 3DS is doing OK because Nintendo still has their comfort zone of the "GBA market" (they always did) and the fact that in Japan, the 3DS is basically the "main console" for many people (not PS3/PS4/Wii/XBox). They still have a niche zone of young boys/girls before they get their first smartphone and parents still lean on the DS/GB to get their damn kids to shut up for long trips or save their iPad from too much use from the kiddies. They just lost the Nintendogs/Brain Training market entirely though.
