Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One sells 2 Million Units in 18 Days

So how does this compare with the Wii 2006 launch? (and yes I know, the Xbox One is twice the price.)

Impressive sales.

Pretty silly to compare the two since it's all about supply but since you asked...

Wii did around 1.6 million in 18 days. Wii U did around 1.3 million in 18 days.

MS has done a really good job of getting the supply out, I think we can safely say the production rumors were just that.

More importantly the console market is strong.

I'm impressed and didn't expect it to sell so many so quick.

I do hope that this ans ps4 sale continue to do well after the initial rush and holiday season.

Thanks for digging up those 'silly' numbers. I was wondering, sounds like they all had good launches.  It's the legs that will determine what happens with a system.

So do you happen to know when the Wii really started to take off?  I guess they had to ramp up production.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Well the closest thing to that would be 2008. That coincided with Mario Kart and Smash though so I don't know. The Wii consistently did 200k a month during the non holiday portions of every other year.

EDT: 200k a week. Slight difference. Ooops

Judging by the sheer amount of posts here, I can only imagine there were debates about this? Like are there people here trying to downplay this??

Because I for one am continually being surprised by this positive news. Globally, I know PS4 is winning, but I expected X1 to be a bomb with all the negative public opinion and $100 price difference.

So this makes me happy to hear, especially since it means well take 2nd place by next holiday :)

I'm not sure if this has been replied to as I got sick of reading any more pages but I don't think many people are downplaying the 2 million. People are just arguing over what week within the 18 days they were sold. Oh, and they were arguing about past predictions as well.

Nice.

If it can sell just... 78 million more. People will stop calling it a flop.

Lol.  Well, some people ...

Can the demise of the home console by mobile platforms be put to rest now?

If the demand persists into next year Q1 - Q2 then yeah lets start celebrating. Although i dont think its mobile platforms that are the demise of home consoles...but rather home consoles have become their own demise.

Both PS4 and X1 can be seen as updated versions of their predecessors, and I can see it being a hard sell to a casual consumer.

I agree with you mostly here.  I have a good feeling that those two quarters are really going to scare a lot of people, particularly Q1.  If Titanfall can live up to the hype (which I never thought would happen with GeoW but it actually exceeded it), Q2 might be a bit more optimistic but it is just one game outside of a holiday period.

The PS4 comes off particularly iterative.  I think the XBO has more casual appeal for various reasons, but the higher price will put some of them off.  Like it or not, folks, these consoles desperately NEED casuals or we'll be talking a lot more about this being the P.E. Gen ...

According to Bloomberg article, even MS expected PS4 will top X1 due to early launch in USA. So I don't think it will be a surprise to see PS4>X1>360>P3>Wii>Wii U

So it was released a week later, is $100 more expensive and had a storm of Black PR spread all over the internet by sonygaf and their army of sockpuppets. Yet it has basically caught up to the ps4 already, very impressive.
