Wrong. When you make statements such as:

"Here's to Gran Turismo, the greatest racing game of all time.",

Here's a few elements of truth to process and realize my (and his) point:

- You're going by metacritic score to validate a (no doubt pioneering) game from 3 generations ago

- For most games, and CERTAINLY for simulators, there is no doubt that the successors will always best what came before. Hence, when it comes to which games are the "best", then GT1>GT2>GT3>GT4>GT5>GT6, since each iteration has improved on every single aspect of what came before.

- Making the assumption that one cannot compare sims across different gens (and I'd argue this is valid) then one must compare the metacritic of GT6 with the last Forza on 360 in order to ascertain what is the greatest racing sim of all time

- With such grandiose words used by you, it is rather remarkable that you call GT a "racing game" when most hardcore fans would feel insulted by such a statment.

This is why you're phrasing in the TITLE and OP are distasteful and arguably incorrect.

Finally, I agree that this thread seems like a direct response to the Forza one. In that case; it seems a little pathetic.

That's your opinion, however I simply came to the conclusion while reading the other thread that the reality is simply that the first GT is by far the best racing game to date, that, my friend, is why my OP actually has substance and thought put in to it, and however hardcore fans may feel about the "racing game" usage, that is what the genre for the first title essentially boiled down to, despite the game itself carrying the tagline "real driving simulator".

What a load of bullshit.

"the reality is simply that the first GT is by far the best racing game to date"

Go and give GT1 to anyone who's played GT6 or the latest Forza. Then go ahead and put next gen graphics on GT1. I guarantee you that the consensus would be that it is NOT better than GT6 or latest Forza. You know that's true. Everyone knows that's true. You need to rephrase what you said.

Because

"GT is by far the best racing game to date"

Is completely false.

Thats true, that does need rephrasing......

Oh wait, that's my opinion, and I stand by it.
Do you know the wonderful thing about opinions?, they're personal, so general consensus and what other people think, doesn't mean a thing.

I'll make it nice and easy for you, and even point out what you apparently missed.

See the bold bit? Yeah..

Selnor believes Ryse is the greatest game ever.

I clearly explained why GT1 cannot be considered "better" than subsequent GTs. Ignoring this blatantly logical explanation, you continue to infuse your own beliefs with the fanfare surrounding GT - in effect blurring the line between the definition proposed in the OP and the general acclaim awarded by subsequent posters in this thread.

It's called delusion in my book.

And if you're not convinced yourself that you are trolling, then I'd have to say that in my opinion (see how easy that is) you are as delusional as Selnor.

Tell you what, name one game that has pushed a genre in a single title as far as GT did, and i'll agree with you, until then, to me, GT1 is the greatest racing game, everything since has been mediocre to great.

and if you cant accept that, then I don't much care.

We can go all the way back to Pole Position in the arcade years, and Rad Racer on NES, really giving the racing sim genre ground.

Or Super Mario Kart, which had most advanced 2D-3D perspective at the time, and really popularized kart racers.

Or GT5/GT6 and Forza 4/Forza 5, which are basically photorealistic and have physics that are hundreds of times better than the original GT.

Improving upon previous designs is progression not innovation, please don't confuse the two

Just cause it's a sequel doesn't mean it's not better
