Thats true, that does need rephrasing......
Oh wait, that's my opinion, and I stand by it. Do you know the wonderful thing about opinions?, they're personal, so general consensus and what other people think, doesn't mean a thing.

Selnor believes Ryse is the greatest game ever.
I clearly explained why GT1 cannot be considered "better" than subsequent GTs. Ignoring this blatantly logical explanation, you continue to infuse your own beliefs with the fanfare surrounding GT - in effect blurring the line between the definition proposed in the OP and the general acclaim awarded by subsequent posters in this thread.
It's called delusion in my book.
And if you're not convinced yourself that you are trolling, then I'd have to say that in my opinion (see how easy that is) you are as delusional as Selnor.

Tell you what, name one game that has pushed a genre in a single title as far as GT did, and i'll agree with you, until then, to me, GT1 is the greatest racing game, everything since has been mediocre to great.
and if you cant accept that, then I don't much care.

We can go all the way back to Pole Position in the arcade years, and Rad Racer on NES, really giving the racing sim genre ground.
Or Super Mario Kart, which had most advanced 2D-3D perspective at the time, and really popularized kart racers.
Or GT5/GT6 and Forza 4/Forza 5, which are basically photorealistic and have physics that are hundreds of times better than the original GT.

Improving upon previous designs is progression not innovation, please don't confuse the two
